After having photos taken Octavia wanted to go to the French Market to look for a masquerade mask. I dropped Octavia, Laura, and Marky off at the French Market. Josh and I wanted to check out Bourbon Street to go to one of the Souvenir shops. Josh wanted to get a Bourbon Street t-shirt

I love these signs on the streets that explain how they got their name

Once they were done shopping in the French Market we returned to pick them up

Josh was checking out Laura's cute little hat that she got at the French Market

After some more shopping and a little lunch at Popeyes. I wanted to head down to the cruise port to watch the Carnival Dream leave. It was about 4:15 pm and I knew that the ship would be leaving soon so we hurried down there

I could sit along the riverfront and watch the boats and water for hours. It is so peaceful

So just as the Carnival Dream was heading down the river I got a call that our friend Stu's flight was arriving at the airport so we all jumped back in the car and headed there to pick him up. He was flying in from Nashville.

We got there to pick him up at almost the exact same time that he was walking out the door. We couldn't have timed that more perfect.

So once we picked Stu up we headed back to the hotel. Everyone wanted to get cleaned up a little before we headed to dinner. From the recommendation of a friend we went to dinner at The Rum House on Magazine Street. The drinks were amazing but the AMAZING but the food was AWFUL. If you want to go somewhere with a quirky Caribbean atmosphere and have a good drink....go here but don't order the food.

My first drink was a Key Lime Colada drink. It was very good

That was my dinner  The Rum House is a Caribbean restaurant. They served Tacos with a Caribbean vibe. I ordered a fish taco, a jerk chicken taco, and a pulled pork taco.

After dinner at The Rum House we headed back to the hotel to start packing up and getting ready to board the Elation in the morning.

So that ends day #6 in the city of New Orleans....who's ready to join me on our adventure on the Carnival Elation

Welcome to Sunday, December 6th. We all decided to sleep in a little this morning because we were pooped from the night before and my friends were still trying to recover from their travel day. Josh and I went to get breakfast for everyone.

Once everyone was up and we were ready to begin our day we headed down to the city. Our first stop was the ********* Cemetery. I am not a fan of cemeteries and this was one place where I didn't really want to be but my friends wanted to get a few pictures. You can't help but to be in awe of the architecture of these tombs

I'm interested in which cemetery you went to? Did you get the front of that tomb? It looks like my family's tomb located at St. Patrick's Cemetery #2, which is near City Park.

I am enjoying your review of New Orleans. We will be spending one day seeing New Orleans before our Jan 23 cruise and I have a question about driving and parking.

Where can you park to walk a bit to see Bourbon St. We are senior ladies that can't walk long distances without resting. We were thinking about catching a streetcar and riding that to see some sights. Is this a possibility?

So sorry to hear about your dad. But now he's hanging out with Banks Santo Brickhouse and drinking buds with Harry Carey. He could be the one to put us over the top in 2016. Best wishes.

Yes he sure is. He even watched over them this postseason as they made it a lot farther than many people thought they would.

It's been a while since I was excited for baseball season to begin. Before my dad and I found cruising we spent a couple spring breaks in Mesa, AZ watching Spring Training.

I'm sure we will see some great things from the Cubbies in 2016

I am so sorry to hear about your father passing. I have read your reviews and I feel like I knew your father. Your reviews are great and they create a picture that tells a great story. Keep your head up and THANK YOU for taking the time to do this review.

Thanks so much. My dad was a great guy and never met a stranger that he didn't enjoy talking to....which is why cruises were perfect for him.

I'm doing the best I can from day to day

We were at the cemetery at the top of Canal Street. It's the smaller one. I didn't get a picture of the front out of respect for the families. This cemetery was close to City Park

Your best bet would be to park out by the cemeteries (park along Canal Street) and take the streetcar downtown. Parking is so limited along Bourbon Street. There aren't many places to sit down and take a break along Bourbon Street without going into a bar to have a drink.

Hi wrigley80/Brianna,

I just wanted to add first, while I have no plans currently to sail on the Elation, I am very much enjoying your review.

I am a little late to your audience, as the first review of yours was that of the Dream last year, which I found in my research for my cruise on the Dream that I finished on Sunday. I loved your style so much that I went to read your other reviews, and found the post notifying about your father's passing. I also want to say how sorry I am, as it was evident in your reviews how close you were, and how much fun you guys had. I will definitely miss reading about him in your reviews, but I think that you have created a beautiful tribute to him already by publishing the adventures that you have had. I am glad that you had your KREWE with you on this cruise, and am looking forward to reading more adventures from you guys!

As a sidenote, I see that you are on the inaugural cruise of the Vista-totally jealous!! I want to go, but I'm trying to justify the cost, so I will likely live vicariously through that review:)

It may be, on the side has the "old", front "door". Those buried prior to my grandparents and Mom. When that gets full, they move it to the side and and a new "Front". It was the black front that caught my attention. These tombs are very old, If I remember, the first one on the side panel was buried in early 1800s. The Last one on the side panel is Cousin Ninnin, ( do not know her first name, just called her Cousin Ninnin), or her sister Maude. Their last name was Napir, (or Rapir).

They move the decomposed caskets and bones to a lower chamber to make room for more resent burials. When I was younger and my PawPaw was alive, we would pass by the Cemeteries and he would say, "Hey ours is over there, the one with the cross on it." It's a family joke. It was the side panel and black front which caught my attention.

I understand your empathy.

Great review!

Hey in Progresso, did you notice if Buddy's was open?

What a perfect way to pay tribute to your dad. I remember reading your reviews when I first signed up for Cruise Critics, and truly enjoyed reading them. What made it really special is that you cruised with your dad. I lost my dad on Christmas Day in 2003, and although I still miss him, the pain is not as great as it was before. Thanks for sharing your special dedication cruise with us.
