chocolate melting cake Posted January 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 1, 2016 I agree with the choice of Harrah's---it's just about the same price as other hotels, and (if in good health) you can roll your luggage to the ship.
Rockjock64 Posted January 2, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Anybody off hand know the nightly rate? I will research the hotels, just looking for a number.
cbCRR Posted January 2, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2016 I booked Red Roof at the airport. $72 per night. Only there for the night, so nothing fancy and don't want to spend extra on parking (many hotels in NOLA have pay parking). Check the Home Ports board. This will probably be moved there anyway. bjd2 Posted January 2, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Whatever you do, don't do a Priceline bid for a 3* in the French Quarter. We spent 2 nights at Chateau Dupre and I still have nightmares. Will never trust a 3* again because of it.
Rockjock64 Posted January 2, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Thanks for the advice...
MarcelLucSell Posted January 2, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 2, 2016 We did TownePlace Suites pre-cruise and HyattPlace post-cruise. Both near the port, and walkable to French Quarter. There is a Super WalMart near to get cruise supplies and wine.

MarcelLucSell Posted January 2, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 2, 2016 We had never been before and gave ourselves 4 nights pre, and one night post, just to get a taste of N.O. Now we can't wait to go back.
AprilJ Posted January 2, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 2, 2016 It's a great city with a lot of history and the best food! First time I went (girls trip) it was Halloween and a home game for the Saints - crazy fun!!!

PenguinLife Posted January 5, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Check for special prices online with Hilton, Double Tree, etc. for the dates in question, just about all of the major name brand downtown hotels near Harrah's casino are good, just their usual price is around $200 per night. Last year I managed to get a deal at the Double Tree across from Harah's casino (Hilton property, nice, but not much on extra amenities, dining, etc) for $88 per night. afkpar Posted January 5, 2016 #17 Share Posted January 5, 2016 We stayed at the Bourbon Orleans Dec 2013. Nice central location in the French Quarter. Everything was walkable :)
CruisinCanuck63 Posted January 5, 2016 #18 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Drury Inn - can't beat the perks at this chain. Breakfast, quasi-dinner (bar food), 3 drinks at happy hour, free long distance and wifi all included. Plus this particular location is in a stunning building. We love the Drury it's our go to each time in town. I love the perks they give you. I don't love the prices keep going up. 5 years ago we paid less than $100 now it's close to $200 per night. Everything goes up and up these days :(
Amatuer_Travel_Agent Posted January 20, 2016 #20 Share Posted January 20, 2016 I would recommend the Drury Inn on Poydras. Located close to the port and bourbon street, free happy hour, light dinner, snacks, free soda, free breakfast and 3 blocks away from a great liquor store and grocery. marshhawk Posted January 21, 2016 #21 Share Posted January 21, 2016 We have stayed pre cruise two years ago, and post cruise last week at the Staybridge Suites in the business district, one block from Harrahs, two blocks from the trolley, free breakfast, and happy hour m-w. Easy walking distance to the French quarter, and right across the street from Mothers. Oh, and free washers and dryers which comes in very handy, pre and post cruise.
