TravelLynn Posted January 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2016 I saw where Disney cruise lines in the Mediterranean will no longer be making stops in Greece or Turkey. My Viking Sea cruise (Mediterranean Odyssey) stops in Corfu, Greece. Wondering if Viking will eliminate this stop.
Mrs Miggins Posted January 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2016 Why would they cancel this wonderful island. What exactly are your concerns? The economy ? migrants ? My daughter was working all summer season in Kos - (look on Google maps - really close to Turkey and with a migrant problem) We visited twice and there were no problems at all. in 2016 we will be on both Azamara starting from Athens and Viking Sea starting from Istanbul. We have no special concerns about this.
id4elizabeth Posted January 4, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 4, 2016 I wouldn't worry about Corfu at all. We were there this past spring and don't think there will be any issues there. We were also in Istanbul and I was a bit nervous going there, so we got a private guide for the day. All worked out fine, although the situation there has gotten worse since we were there. Istanbul might become an issue for Viking going forward - long before Corfu.
TravelLynn Posted January 10, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted January 10, 2016 ....for the responses. Disney said they were cancelling Greece/Turkey because they felt their cruise ships would be a target for terrorists. I was wondering if the other cruise lines would follow suit. So far they have not. I am fine with whatever Viking decides. There are some legitimate concerns out there but you also cannot live in a bubble. TravelLynn Posted January 12, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted January 12, 2016 I'm thinking there will be many Turkey cancellations now. So sad for the families of those who were killed & wounded in Istanbul.
id4elizabeth Posted January 13, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2016 Yes it is sad for the families of the tourists as well as any locals injured. And sad to for the people of Istanbul, many of whom depend on tourism for their livelihood. From the few pictures that have been released, we were exactly on that spot this past spring.
