elaineb Posted October 7, 2005 #51 Share Posted October 7, 2005 I also get a prescription for Xanax and it has made all the difference for me. Although if my husband could only stay awake through the take-off, that would also help!!!! Another helpful idea is record a CD of all cruise/island type music and listen to that in the flight. It will get you anticipating your trip and what will be waiting for you.
jckvpa0 Posted October 7, 2005 #52 Share Posted October 7, 2005 Completely understand...I am too.....One word.....VALIUM.:D This is what I would suggest, make sure you ask your doctor for enough to get you there, the return, & one to try so you'll know how you react to it. Remember to be careful, mixing with alcohol will increase the effect :D !
gtalum Posted October 7, 2005 #53 Share Posted October 7, 2005 Also, maybe you should try a short flight somewhere just to get the feel for flying. Find a cheap fare to somewhere close by and fly there for the afternoon.
jckvpa0 Posted October 7, 2005 #54 Share Posted October 7, 2005 Help me understand. Exactly what is everyone afraid of when it comes to flying. Is it the confinement? Gee, could it be dying!!!
gtalum Posted October 7, 2005 #55 Share Posted October 7, 2005 Gee, could it be dying!!! But you're far more likely to die driving to the airport than you are on any commercial flight.

True, especially when I've taken the Valium & washed it down with a good strong one  !!!
WeatherGeek Posted October 7, 2005 #57 Share Posted October 7, 2005 But you're far more likely to die driving to the airport than you are on any commercial flight. And that's why it's an irrational fear!
