Is it to late to purchase travel insurance?

Question...

I have cruised several times and have never purchased any type of travel insurance. I have been reading and think it would be a WISE investment to purchase it before our cruise this time.

Only problem is, we leave NEXT SATURDAY, 10-15.. Is it too late to purchase it now?

it is never too late to purchase insurance. last year we deceided at the last minute to get insurance, we used insuremytrip.com and bought it online about 4 days before we left on our trip. They offer lots of options and very reasonable prices. We paid for it online and they sent us the whole policy for us to download and print out. We will use them again for our next cruise. Of course any pre exsisiting conditions will probably not be covered, you would need to purchase within 7-14 days of booking your cruise, but other things will be covered. With the weather the way it has been this year insurance is a must!

Enjoy your cruise

Not too late! We always wait until after final payment has been made to purchase insurance. We have no pre-existing conditions and would rather not be out the insurance premium if we have to cancel a cruise. We've never waited as long as you have, but I don't see any problem with it.

Waiting this long you won't be covered for any pre-existing conditions or for any weather-related problems. Since there doesn't seem to be any weather problems for this weekend, you're covered, but if there had been a hurricane on the horizon and you couldn't make it to the port because of this, you wouldn't be covered purchasing insurance so late.

I was under the impression that if a hurricane caused cancellation of the cruise, as long as you purchased insurance before the storm was named, you would still be covered. True or not true?

Once a storm is in a cruise area, and you haven't purchased the insurance before it was seen in the area, you won't be covered. It makes no difference whether the storm is named or not. Some people have tried to purchase travel insurance when they find out that there's a tropical depression in the area in which they're cruising, and if they can't make it to their embarkation port because of that storm, and they just purchased the insurance, they won't be covered. There was a very comphehensive article in Conde Nast Traveler Magazine and that was one of their highlighted comments--purchasing travel insurance at the last minute because of weather. It's the same for people living in the north, and cruising in winter. People think that if they purchase travel insurance a few days before their cruise because they know a big snowstorm is coming, they won't be covered because the storm had been forecasted.
