triple7tahoe Posted January 18, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2016 We will be going on B2B2B cruises on the Diamond starting in March. The first two cruises say our shipboard account will be in Australian dollars while it changes for the third cruise which is leaving Australia and after making a few stops, heads up to the Orient. For that cruise the onboard account changes to US $. Sound simple enough until I started wondering about the casino? Will the slots/games use Australian and payout in Australian until the third cruise? It sound simple to say yes but now wonder what they do with the "currency reader" that allows you to insert paper money to play. Yes, I know about using cruise card but would like to use cash to limit playing amount. If shipboard account is in Australian dollars, I would think casino would follow suit-Just hoping that someone on here has experience and will share-Thanks

triple7tahoe Posted January 18, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted January 18, 2016 This is something I've wondered about, too. Doing a cruise on Diamond next month. We join Diamond on March 2 for a little over a month with the first two cruises in AUD$ and the third leg in US. Just trying to figure out if I should stock up on AUD at present, very favorable for us, rate?
cruise flotsam Posted January 18, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2016 Lucky you. I join the Diamond on the 23 March and as an Aussie I am watching the exchange rate go down down down. Less money to buy anything on board. This will not deter me. The Diamond is a beautiful ship and I will have a great time

Alessandrina Posted January 19, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2016 As for the casino, I reckon your first two cruises will be in AUD whilst the third will be in USD. They might start to change the machines during the end of the second cruise and for certain on the turnaround day. Enjoy your cruises on Diamond Princess! Cheers. Actually, I don't see a problem with the machines themselves-The amounts shown as payouts are in dollars and the casino can hand over which ever dollar they are using- a $1000 payout is still a $1000, just in a different currency. Where I see a problem, is the currency readers (and now wonder if they will be in use) as you can insert a US 20 and get 20 dollars in credits. It is not easy to switch out the currency readers and certainly can not be done overnight for more than a few machines.

I suspect it won't take much to change 'em. After all they've been doing it for years when they sail here from somewhere then leave on a domestic cruise and still do wit Diamond and Golden when they arrived this year and Emerald when she comes down next year.
