disembarking from Oceania cruises

When disembarking does Oceania give priority to passengers with early flights? Is there a problem with getting your luggage in a timely fashion? The port in question is Callao Peru in April

As on most Cruise Ships. ones major pieces of luggage are placed outside the cabin on the night before landing at the final port and are claimed again pier side, before going through a final Customs check (presumably the pieces on the pier are pre-screened in some manner).

Debarkation priority is given to passengers with the earliest travel arrangements (the front office sends out a survey at the 3/4 cruise mark) , and everyone handles their own carry on (carry off?) luggage. Porters will be available on the pier.

How long it will take for the ship, and then you, to clear Customs in Peru is the bugbear in the equation, and as that process is dependent entirely on the conduct of you and your fellow passengers on THAT CRUISE, it remains somewhat of a mystery until that day.

Clearing the Ship might be done in half an hour, but if there are glitches it can easily take two or three hours, so make your travel arrangements according to your risk tolerance.

This port is "special". When we joined Marina there, we were not permitted to the ship.. We had to drop our bags just inside the gate and then were shuttled to the ship. The bags came separately. That being said, with 5 hours to plane departure you should be fine. Perhaps a ship's transfer might be worthwhile there?

It's a commercial port and they won't let you walk to the exit gate. Don't bring any food, especially fruit ashore. (Crackers and similar packaged stuff is fine.)The airport is close-by, you can see the planes land and depart from the ship. Pre-arrange your ride to the airport either with Oceania or privately. We were told it is not a good idea to pick up just any cab. I remember vaguely that people on the cc HAL board had recommendations for cab companies.

  • 3 weeks later...
Anyone with info at earliest they were able to disembark in Citavecchia? Ship docks at 6:00 AM.

The problem with that question is that until the ship clears Customs, nobody is setting foot off that ship, and I mean NOBODY.

Chances are that you're going to be spending ten to twelve hours on an Airplane later in the day anyway, so do yourself a favor and cut the stress out of the morning.

Schedule a flight that gives you plenty of time to get to the airport, even if you can't get off the ship until 10AM or so.

You might be off promptly at 7, but you just won't know that until the day, and the advantage of not sitting around waiting for the flight just isn't worth the angst of having to rebook on the day if there are issues with some fools Passport. ;) .
