Really struggling to find a cruise in 2017 that will work for me. Might have to do a land vacation:(. Thinking about vegas, has shows and a casino

I'll be in Vegas again in a few weeks, and I'll spend more on that 5 night trip than I do on a 7 night cruise. That doesn't include gambling money.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings president and CEO Frank Del Rio believes that raising prices on customers, particularly when they are onboard of the company’s three brands, is now a sustainable way to drive revenue.

“The emphasis will be to continue to push prices up,” said Del Rio on the company’s third quarter earnings call Tuesday. “Not just ticket prices, but we’ve seen very strong onboard revenue, particularly on the Norwegian brand… we think that has sustainability.”

“At the end of the day, the consumer is not stupid,” said Del Rio. “You have to maintain ships at these higher levels if you want to receive higher yields. So far we’re pleased with our ability to raise prices, our ability to generate incremental onboard revenue and we believe that if the fleet were to be in top condition, that will continue.”

Came home last week with a cruisenext certificate for the haven. Prices for the same haven suite same cruise are doubled thinking about canceling the fcc..

I bought 2 fcc's. They had a bogo so that's why I bought 2 versus 1 hoping we would take the 6 of us next time

I still have 2 weeks to cancel it though

Last I saw was $47.82. Couple of bucks below CCL.

Is FDR on the go fund me site, too ???

Both NCLH and CCL fell a little more today - down 62 cents to close today at $47.20

Disclosure, we owned shares in CCL (brought them when they're in the low 30's and held them, nice quarterly dividends - consistently for a couple of years now - that help "subsidize" our vacations, but no positions on NCLH as it has no dividends for shareholders. When we sail the other brands, their stockholder's perks including OBC are combined with / on top of other OBC and benefits (NCL - not really ...)

Don't know if FDR and/or AS are on that site ? I doubt it - but, it seemed that (apparently) insiders and top executives at NCLH owned very little shares of their company stocks ... from the info/disclosures released ... NCLH (the stock) is basically owned/held by outside investors, especially institutional ones. Thoughts and data on it ??

On a somewhat related note - the Chinese market and economy is on a drastic slowdown lately, and, the 2017 launch can be viewed as being somewhat a little more risky than before, IMHO. CCL brands have 4 ships in that market and of course, RCI >>>> well, FDR can always "re"-position the new mega-ship in 2018 and beyond & realign for another market, I think.

I also bought CCL stock at $30 and have done well with the dividends and OBC. Some friends who cruise with us have been declined their requests for OBC by NCL, but we have never had that problem with CCL. I stayed away from NCLH stock for several reasons.

The recent decline in the market prices has magnified the debt problem NCLH has and is increasing the debt equity ratio. That has some analysts concerned.

I hope FDR can continue to succeed in his price increase philosophy, but that has served to discourage some of the long term cruisers from booking. Also, the deceptive advertising practices is getting some negative attention.

I have selected some cruises on other lines because of this, and it seems some others have done likewise.

I'm always confused by these threads. Whenever I price cruises, Carnival is the only line that is cheaper per person, and once you take KSF and free UBP into account, NCL comes out *way* cheaper than Carnival.

I haven't cruised yet, so I'm definitely not an NCL cheerleader, and I can understand being upset if you used to find cruising affordable and no longer do. But when NCL's prices are so much lower than the other lines, it is definitely an issue with the industry, not the company.

Our Escape booking for May 2016 costs the same as our Getaway cruise in May 2014 -- same cabin, same week, same itinerary. Oh, except we get free beverage package this time, whereas we bought it last time. Just an example that not all have gone up.

Do a mock booking for march and first 2 weeks of April you will find it a lot more expensive than the last two years. I cruised the last two years and the price difference for a balcony room is over $1000 for 3 people. I know you like to spell check folks so please excuse my phone typing.

I don't need to. I know there are some sailings that are more expensive. I simply want to point out to those who like to make blanket statements, that the price increases are not across the board. Yet people will continue to ignore the facts that contradict their opinion. People need to believe that things are horrible, and it shakes their world if someone suggests they aren't.

I agree! I just returned last week on the Getaway and prices have doubled with less perks. Not a happy camper😞

This is the same thing they are complaining about on Royal and Carnival .

I haven't heard about this , what is it?

Advertising booking perks as free, and adding fees.

Sending emails stating expired FCC's are reinstated, then refusing to honor the terms stated in emails.

Changing the terms of bookings after the deal is made.

There are others, but these are the main things that I don't like.

Whew. Thought it was just me. I booked a cruise around this time last year, an 8 day on the gem in june with the "free" adult beverage package in a minisuite for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids). The whole thing was around $3k. Now to book the exact same room type on the same ship same sailing etc... it is over 2k more. That's a huge difference and I'm very glad I booked when I did. That said NO idea what we are doing next year as I'm not willing to pay more, period, for the same experience. It's a very cookie cutter, canned vacation. Not worth $5k.

The whole industry is kinda shady when it comes to honesty.

We sailed the Breakaway back in October 2013 and are now booked on the same itinerary for a September 2016 sailing and are paying the same price as we did in 2013 maybe a couple hundred dollars less for the same category room but this time we got the UBP and we will be bringing our 2 year old. That's 3 people instead of two plus the UBP for less than we paid for the same ship/itinerary in 2013.

To be fair, they can only charge what the market will pay and it is all supply and demand. And right now the demand is high. This is NOT only NCL, but across the industry, and prices are up across the board. I don't like it either, but I can hardly point fingers at FDR for cranking up prices. I have one current booking on NCL and am in no rush to make more at current pricing. Other lines that I would normally be holding bookings on I also am not, due to pricing. The value proposition is eroding, but again, this is not just NCL.

and I'm afraid you are correct on that score. We're diamond on RCI and have no cruises booked with them this year or next and I'm not sure when we will book with them again to be honest. The same complaints and issues exist there as they do here. High prices, lower value. On our last cruise with them we ordered a couple of sailaway drinks and it was like $28 and being a Canadian that works out almost $40! Needless to say, we limited our intake of liquor for the week and sneaked a couple bottles on as well. Prices of cruises always compared quite favourably to all-inclusives. Not so much anymore and in fact I think a good all-inclusive could be had for cheaper than a week at sea once you consider air, hotels and car rentals.

I still think that the best prices for cruises are obtained when you book as far out as you can. We booked our Getaway 14 months out and we booked our two Princess cruises more than a year out. In fact, we booked the Princess Feb 2017 cruise as soon as the itinerary was released - probably 16-17 months prior. So early is best I say.
