MaryPoppinz Posted May 3, 2004 #152 Share Posted May 3, 2004 It's Shigella. It's generally a food-borne (ingested) illness (very similar to E-Coli), but stool infected with Shigella can infect others. I'd hate to see people leave their little ones home from a cruise, just because they're in diapers. Ditto, older people. The variety of folks onboard is one of the things I enjoy about cruising. But, I think Americans have become sort of generally "un-hardy" in terms of our resistance to illness, and I'd hate to see anyone develop a serious infection on a cruise as a result of something preventable. Especially an infant who might get an illness from another infant who has used a splash pool. Maybe we could all just generally agree to opt-out of activities where we might possibly put one another at risk. We're not going to use the pools if we don't have bowel control, we won't go on a vigorous shore excursion if we're not fit, we don't use the buffet utensils until we've washed our hands, we stay home and let the cruise insurance kick in if we've got a communicable illness right before sailing.....that sort of common-sense thing. A continuous fountain for lots of splashing fun; no standing water to trap illness or to increase the risk of drowning; and a bottom surface designed to prevent falls by creating good traction for bare, wet, unsteady feet. cindersue Posted May 3, 2004 #154 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Hi MaryPoppinz, Sounds good to me!The Golden Rule would work great! and Salty Dawg... Your Welcome... I just hope no one ever gets Shigella (now I can spell it)or any other nasty illness from a "pool accident" on a ship...Not a fun way to spend a vacation!Cindy Cruisin with Sis,Clark,& Lana Inside Passage Regal
starsjohn Posted May 3, 2004 #155 Share Posted May 3, 2004 If any of you have access to the LA Times today, there is a photo of a similar device at Universal Studios on a much larger scale than the one at Fashion Island. The photo shows people of all ages getting heat relief from out heat wave. You can set the water levels by computer to be suitable just for toddlers or any age group for that matter. WeWant2Cruise4Ever Posted May 3, 2004 #161 Share Posted May 3, 2004 To Salty Dawg, Wih regard to this subject...thank you for expressing what so many of us feel and have a severe intolerance for, but for the most part people are afraid to express because they will "look bad"....therefore the feelings we share look to be the minority...instead of a fair share of cruisers...As a note, Disney Cruise lines has more areas for adults only than your average lines do....restaurants, private island areas, pool area, etc.....and they are supposed to be for families and children....do our lines have restaurants for adults only...and if you suggest it you are given the evil eye. We love children, but we so need our adult time whether it's popular or not. These ships are big enough to have areas that can make everyone happy, all it would take is a little planning and a little enforcement and each and every cruiser would have the vacation they deserve. crazy4themouse Posted May 3, 2004 #174 Share Posted May 3, 2004 How very interesting... I just spoke with several different people at Princess -- on hold while speaking to a Customer Relations supervisor right now, in fact -- and they have all asserted vehemently that NO children in diapers or swim diapers are allowed in ANY of the pools, period. They admit that no, there are no signs by the pools (*boggle*) stating such, and I informed him that nowhere on the entire Princess site does it state that -- even amidst the extensive policy listings. He is checking right now to see if it is online *anywhere* for people to see. He also assured me that people are there to "immediately remove anyone observed in the pool in a diaper or swim diaper." As soon as I have time, I will write an actual letter to push for that info to be added where it needs to be -- with all the other info on the website. So I feel better, it really is a rule... now they just need to let people actually KNOW it is. -gina- Grand Princess, here we come!! 3/12/05 Disney Magic: 2/02, 2/03, 2/
