Molokini for children?

Has anyone taken their children on a snorkeling trip to Molokini off of Maui? How good a swimmer should one be?

Are you taking about the island of Molokai? I've not heard of Molokini, but I know that unless you're in a sheltered area, you need to be a strong swimmer in many of the areas in Hawaii. If you're in a lagoon or a place that has a breakwater that shelters the swimming area, there can be stong currents in many places around the Hawaiian islands.

It's Molokini Island, just off the SW coast of Maui. It's supposed to be one of the top snorkeling places in the state.

In my experience all swimming at Molokini is off a boat with life vests on. Molokini is crescent shaped and is often very calm. It is a long boat ride too. Hope this helps.

that's great about the calm part. I'm a nervous nellie about the water even tho' my daughter can basically swim. Thanks.
