luvtheships Posted February 12, 2016 #52 Share Posted February 12, 2016 It now appears that the Feb 13 cruise will not go forward as planned ... http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Anthem-of-Seas-Cruise-Ship-Storm-Damage-Coast-Guard-Inspectors-Royal-Caribbean-368534091.html That's not what the film clip says Where did you see or hear it has been cancelled
Cuizer2 Posted February 12, 2016 #53 Share Posted February 12, 2016 That's not what the film clip says Where did you see or hear it has been cancelled The next cruise is scheduled for tomorrow. To fix a non working azipod takes more than 24 hours and might require a drydock. The Coast Guard will not allow the ship to take on passengers and go to sea until the azipod is fixed. MizDemeanor Posted February 12, 2016 #54 Share Posted February 12, 2016 You have to wonder what the revised policy will be for storm avoidance. In hurricane season when the ships are ready to sail and a storm is brewing, what does that mean... No sail, diversion, delayed sail time? All of the above create cruiser meltdown. Its a no win. barnacle_boy Posted February 12, 2016 #55 Share Posted February 12, 2016 FYI the captain was in contact with shoreside marine operations regarding voyage planning, as is the case for all major cruise lines. People think that captains have a ton of autonomy, and under the law they do, but they are also greatly beholden to corporate. NCL is even making it a point to fire captains that don't toe the line. NCL uses the same voyage planning systems as RCI. It could very well have been Breakaway or Gem in the same position.
sjbdtz Posted February 12, 2016 #56 Share Posted February 12, 2016 As long as RCCL has clearance to cruise, I will walk that gangplank happily. You'll have a much better time walking up the gangWAY to your cruiseship. Leave the gangplanks to the pirates. :D We fully intend to sail around the horn in search of God's own thrill ride. We're doing this next month. This was our fun on the way to Iceland in 2014: Stephen .
bob brown Posted February 13, 2016 #57 Share Posted February 13, 2016 After reading the responses to this thread, and based on my own feelings.... I think that the only people that would cancel, would be those who either never cruised, or was only on this cruise.... Most well-travelled passenger's would continue to cruise... As for RCI's (and perhaps extended to other CLIA member's) future decisions... I'm certain they will take a measurably more conservative policy... So....perhaps we'll see some winter-time diversions to New England and Canada, when the weather south and southeast look like long lasting storms....or perhaps just stay in port until the weather vastly improves, and cut short the scheduled ports-of-call.....like was done during Hurricane Sandy.... Mention was made that the Captain of the Anthem would have to find a new job...I don't think that is so....at least until the findings of the NTSB and other authorities investigating the incident find their conclusion as to responsibility... (They stated that he was leaving the ship "to aid in the investigation".... but what else would they say so early>
Jezo Posted February 13, 2016 #58 Share Posted February 13, 2016 To be honest, when I was watching the news of this, I was sort of wishing I was on that ship. One report from someone on the ship says they all got free booze after it happened and a refund. Sounds like a win to me. An epic story, a free trip, and liquor you dont need to pay for. We picked the wrong ship to be on last week!
