silvermoon2 Posted October 10, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2005 Our tips are prepaid, our excursions are paid for, My Mom's paying for all pictures (cause she wants them ALL) and we have 200.00 onboard credit and this is our first cruise. How much money should we expect to spend?:)
jckvpa0 Posted October 10, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2005 It all depends, do you drink, gamble, or like specialty coffee ? That's very nice of your mother in law, do you have any idea how many pictures they take? Don't ask me where the pictures " I had to have" are now. Just one little bit of advice, don't wait till the last day to buy your pictures. It's crazy that day & than you have to look through so many to find yours. Buy as you go, besides this allows you to enjoy your last day on board!
serene56 Posted October 10, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2005 First time cruisers tend to buy lots of pictures. I get one when we arrive which will have the name of the ship date and sometimes time (clock in the background) and one formal night photo which are 20 bucks. we are not drinkers and very light gambling. Our last cruise we had 400 cabin credit-- did not prepay tips and we didnt spend it all. Got a check the last night for 137 bucks. What you spend onboard is all personal choice-- you can spend a few dollars or you can spend a few hundred dollars.
steve20832 Posted October 10, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2005 You shouldn't need any money since honeymoon couples never leave the bed. Time to get serious....All your spending gets put on a card which links to your credit card and you pay at the end of the cruise. The only cash you would need is for tips, gifts purchased at the ports, and the casino. Only you know your shopping and gambling habits so no one here can really tell you how much $ to bring. imsulin2 Posted October 10, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2005 In addition to drinks (including soft drinks), gambling, Bingo, and specialty coffees, don't forget that Spa/Salon treatments are also extra, as is any specialty Restaurant that might be on your ship. Then, there are also shipboard purchases from the gift shops, (including liquor shop), and you should also tip for any room service items you order. Also, while onshore, don't forget about tipping your guide/s and driver/s. If you're not on a ship's excursion, you can expect to pay for things like taxis and admission fees, food and drinks, and tipping, as well as general shopping. You didn't mention the name of your ship, or how many days you will be cruising, or your ports of call. Some ports are cheaper than others. silvermoon2 Posted October 10, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted October 10, 2005 Hi, we are cruising on the 7 Day Conquest in Nov. We are both lightish drinkers and not much for gambling but we do love souveneers (SP)! Mom actually knows how many pics they will take, they just got back from a carnival cruise! I'm just trying to get an idea of about how much we should expect to need. Thanks!
GoinCruisin Posted October 10, 2005 #7 Share Posted October 10, 2005 Hi, we are cruising on the 7 Day Conquest in Nov. I'm just trying to get an idea of about how much we should expect to need. Thanks! It's a tough question. I budget between $100-$150 per day for me... mainly for drinks, ports, general tipping, and extra spending money. There is ALOT to spend money on when you cruise, if you want to. It is better to be prepared. Are you going to be going to ports? Are you going to be having drinks, sodas, bottled water, etc? Will you be playing bingo or doing any gambling (it draws you in! LOL), art auctions? Spa services? gift shop? etc etc etc. Just be prepared and take along a credit card that has a decent limit, just in case. imsulin2 Posted October 10, 2005 #9 Share Posted October 10, 2005 I would strongly suggest that you bring a lot of $1.00 bills for tipping. Cozumel (Mexico) is where you can get some great bargains! Grand Cayman...very $$$$$ expensive. (The Cayman dollar is worth more than the U.S. dollar) Montego Bay, Jamaica...ONLY use the JUTA taxis with the red license plate! Don't wander about alone - take a tour! If you do Dunn's River Falls, it's a 2 1/2 hour ride each way from MoBay to Ocho Rios (Dunn's River). For a 7-night cruise on the Conquest, I would suggest a minimum of $500.00 spending money. Bring Traveller's Checks and just a little cash. Have a great time! AppleValleyCruisers Posted October 10, 2005 #10 Share Posted October 10, 2005 We spent about $800, inc gratuities. Notes: Wife wasn't drinking because she's pregnant, we didin't gamble much at all, we used non CCL vendors for the excursions, bought a couple of photos, had dinner at Nick and Nora's, didn't spend a lot in port (ok, cigars were the biggest expenditure but not everyone loves Cuban cigars). The only thing we would change is the $100.00 we dropped at Nick and Nora's (but others absolutely love the restaurant) and the $65.00 we dropped at the Hard Rock in George Town for a burger, mac n cheese, a couple of LI Teas and a seven-up. We had a blast, and hope you do too!!! ( Can only imagine what the tab would have been if both of us were pouring booze down our gullets like a couple of longshoremen)

GoinCruisin Posted October 10, 2005 #12 Share Posted October 10, 2005 WOW-- why?? I didnt know it was that expensive Doesn't take much to get to $100 for two people, that is dinner plus about 4-8 drinks, depending on what you are drinking, plus we leave an extra tip. Not exactly a "cheap" night, but so worth it and so much less than the same experience would cost on land! And you get to be on a ship :D Okay, can you tell I only have 19 days left?? LOL!!!
