Matt3177 Posted February 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2016 8. Whale sightings everyday. 7. Fantastic room stewards...Mind blowing, considering the exploitative wages (by US standards) 6. Great buffet... Based on cruise ship standards (not Las Vegas standards). Second only to Celebrity. Main dining room...not so good...lol 5. $17 massages!.. That's right 300 pesos for 60 minutes. Available in all Mexican ports. 4. Fresh made crepes every night... Awesome! 3. Numerous smoking areas on the promenade and lido decks. Nothing better than a good smoke looking out over the beautiful blue sea. 2. Indian food.. 5+ selections every day. Laden with intoxicating spices and complex flavors. 1. Price... Embarrassingly low rates for a 7 day cruise (at least on this cruise date 2/7/16). Forget the balcony, just book an inside cabin and you won't find a more economical vacation anywhere. joteacher Posted February 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Sounds great! Looking forward to our upcoming Jewel cruise...NOT looking forward to lots of cigarette smoke! Hopefully there won't be a lot of smokers on our sailing! ~Joanne
Toliverair Posted February 16, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2016 The Jewel was fabulous! We sailed 1/24-1/31. Never smelled cigarette smoke one time. I would have stayed on board another week if I could have talked DH in to it. [emoji4]
Rare www3traveler Posted February 16, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Toliverair, I was on the same cruise. I am very sensitive to the smell of smoke and it did not bother me either when I walked through the casino or was walking laps on outdoors on Deck 7. For me the most outstanding part of the cruise was the staff whether the Senior Hotel Staff, Captain Niklas's staff or all other staff members I encounter. This was one of my best cruises ever (29 and counting- all Norwegian). Mandy
Matt3177 Posted February 16, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted February 16, 2016 The smoke won't be a problem for non smokers. The smoking areas on the promenade and lido decks are outside and well ventilated. :)

janpo Posted February 16, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) We loved the Jewel. Would sail her again in a heartbeat. We've also sailed the Getaway. Edited February 16, 2016 by janpo
swedish weave Posted February 16, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) I was on the Jewel 1/24 to 1/31 and on the Carnival Miracle 1/31 to 2/13. Your item number one is not correct because the rate I paid per day on the Miracle was about half the rate I paid on the Jewel. By comparison, I had lobster in the MDR on carnival. The OBC was not restricted. The DSC rate was lower. Several other items were much less restricted on Carnival as opposed to NCL Jewel. Even my long standing Lattitudes benefits were restricted. I found the Carnival experience much more rewarding than NCL. Edited February 16, 2016 by swedish weave
Matt3177 Posted February 17, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted February 17, 2016 swedish weave you make good points. The rates vary from week to week. On 2/7/16 NCL had the lowest rates ( $349 inside cabin + gov fees). If Carnival is less expensive I would not hesitate to take them. I actually think the main dining room food is better on Carnival. The lobster is also a big plus. In addition Carnival does not charge for room service.

We find NCL to be quite superior to Carnival in that area, right? If you are big into karaoke, then Carnival would be your choice there too, otherwise, we find that NCL is far superior on that front. I am not one to compare the entertainment because I seldom go to the shows. The one thing Carnival does is the dining room waiters sing and dance, and I find that entertaining because the waitstaff seem to enjoy themselves a lot doing it. detroitlions Posted February 25, 2016 #18 Share Posted February 25, 2016 You put number 8. I see that on every lido deck on every cruise I have ever been on not a good thing. everything else was spot on. I like Carnival and NCL I go with the best deal some times that backfires though NCL has better Suites.
Matt3177 Posted February 25, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) Ha Ha ...yes you will see whales at the lido buffet too! ..rushing around, almost panicky, like they will run out of food :) I forgot number 9... 9. The white hot party...one of the best parties at sea Edited February 25, 2016 by Matt3177
