Pros and Cons in Booking through an Agent?

Very interesting reading through all the comments. Seems there is no right or wrong way to book - just find one that suits you. We subscribe to dozens (well, seems like it) websites and receive their specials. When we decide to cruise, we check out prices everywhere, including some USA based websites, and then contact the online TA we have used for most of our bookings. We get their price, then tell them what we can get it for and they will match it.

The only disadvantage is they want 50% deposit up front. We can get around this by using Future Cruise Credits (RCL) or booking direct with cruise line and then transferring the booking to the TA. If we pay by CC, there is a % charge, but we can BPAY for no charge.

The advantages to us is we earn loyalty points for the cruise on a certain rewards program and also we earn points on our CC rewards program.

So, we do all the leg work and then book with them and earn the points!
