You have a few options (walking is not practical). Your cruise line might run a shuttle bus (some do this for free) that would take passengers into the Central part of town...from where it is still a pretty long walk (but doable) to the station. There is also a decent public bus/tram system...although we never used that for the station. Your best bet is to simply grab a taxi from the port directly to the Central Station. The train ride takes 45-60 min (each way).

Beware, that we have had problems trying to use a US Credit card at the Rotterdam Station. 3 years ago this station would only accept Chip/PIN cards so we just opted to buy our tickets with cash (no problems getting Euros out of ATMs). At the time, the station ticket office manager told us that the only station in Holland that accepted the old style US credit cards....was the Amsterdam Central Station. Not sure of the current policy.

You can grab a taxi from the port at Rotterdam and be at the Rotterdam train station in just a few minutes. You can also get a bus nearby but the taxi is not expensive and it's a short hop. The train from Rotterdam to Amsterdam runs several times an hour. You can see the schedule on line. As long as you have a chipped credit card you will be fine. Or you can use euros in the machines as well. The Dutch train network is excellent and very easy to use.
