Vista prices when they were first announced

On the topic of price reductions - is everyone else finding it that Carnival won't do it over the phone anymore? (as in apply the rate reductions)

I had 2 people tell me recently that I needed to complete the price protection form. With the first one, the rate had dropped quite a bit and by the time Carnival had got to it that new rate was gone :(

Tow of the three drops for our Vista cruise were done without question over the phone. The third told me I needed to fill out the form. I thanked her and told her I would call back and speak to someone else. That attempt was successfully done over the phone.

I gave up on the form two years ago as they were always denied and I ended up calling in anyway.

We are June 11, 2016 Barcelona to Athens, we booked pretty early on, 8E for 3798 (2 people) now 2976 and 4H (2 people) for 2368 now 1766. Most drops were well before final payment. I'm happy with our prices for a 10 day cruise.

  • 5 weeks later...

My family was booked on the 11/27 6-day sailing out of MIA and we paid $2100/cabin for the Havana Extended Aft balconies on Deck 6. That was back in July 2015.

A few weeks ago, I had to change to the 12/17 sail date and am now paying $2700/cabin for Deck 2 cove balconies side by side but it still works out to the same $175/day and we are getting an extra day on the ship! And the itinerary is better. Also, it's during Christmas season but the prices have been dropping. I've already had 1 price adjustment since I booked.

I admit I was sad I had to give up those 2 aft balconies in the Havana area but I've never stayed in a cove balcony before. Plus, my sis is booked in the Family Harbor Lounge area on Deck 2 so we will all be close to each other.

We booked our May 24 sailing in January 2015 for $1349 PP. It dropped to $664 in February 2016. Unfortunately, I had already paid for the cruise in full, so it was returned in the form of an OBC.

On a slightly off topic but still on topic question... I was told Early Saver only applies if there are still available cabins on the sailing, does anyone know if is this true? I had an agent tell me it applied whether there were cabins available or not - until the day before the sail date, but last night when I called, they said Early Saver only applies as long as cabins are available.

That's when a PVP comes in handy. If you have one, they will do it over the phone.

If you got the OBC I don't understand the issue. You received compensation for the price drop. Confused.

And yes, it only applies if there are cabins available in the category of the lower price.

We booked a Havana Inside cabin on the Transatlantic back in January 2015. It was $1,334pp base rate at the time and we've since had a small price drop of $30pp. I keep checking for more price drops but I don't think anyone with a Havana cabin on the TA is going to let them go lightly, unless the Havana concept proves to be a washout in earlier cruises. I guess we'll see soon enough.

Precisely why you should never pay the balance for a cruise ahead of the due date. My $$$ sits in my desk drawer until a day or 2 before the balance is due.

If there are no cabins in a specific cabin category (4F, 8E, etc) left to sell, the price will not change - so there will be no more price drops regardless of which fare (Early Saver, Past Guest, etc) you booked under.

Well I basically paid for this OBC and we're forced to use all of it. It's non refundable and non transferable. If we don't use this $1200 worth of OBC, we lose it. We typically don't spend that much extra money on the boat. We spend more money on land. We were planning to do most of the exploring on the ports of call on our own rather than excursions because we like to be on our own pace.:(

Early Saver can only be applied if cabins of your booked categorie are still available. How did you check prices for a cabin thats not available?

Makes sense! :p I was just given conflicting information from the Carnival agents hence my confusion.

If there are cabins in a higher category that become cheaper you can change your booking, and if that category is cheaper than you were paying for yours then you can claim back the difference (either as reduced cost, or OBC).

A great way to monitor prices is Cruise Fish dot net which also shows price history too.

I think there's a way around this for you. Basically you can use a loophole to do with the casino to "cash out" some of your OBC and get your money back. This thread explains how to do it, although ignore post #2 which is irrelevant and confusing:

Apparently there's a $300 per day limit so you would need to do it a few times, and some folks say you might have to play a couple of spins each time or else the casino can lock you out of the cash out function. That said, if all else fails I think you can use your OBC to buy casino chips and then cash them in, but there's a 3% surcharge for doing it that way, which is why most folks do it the slot machine way, which doesn't incur any fees.

We booked the day it opened. Aft cabin on 7 for $2,918.00 for the TA. It has since been reclassified as Havana Aft and the price has gone way, way up. It was over $4,000 at one point. So I feel really good.
