campolady Posted March 3, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) PS hope your hubby is ok and you have settled into new environment ? Stevie :) Thank you so much! Ian is still frail - we live from one Drs appointment to the next - BUT, if everything goes well on 23rd April when we se his new Kidney Specialist (makes a change from Cardiologists lol!) we will be booking a cruise for mid May. We are absolutely loving our new environment. Edited March 3, 2016 by campolady
Vitalsign Posted April 7, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2016 Really enjoyed the Fred Olsen cruise series especially when it showed what the ship has to do when passing Somalia - it reminded me of films I'd seen about people using the underground during the bombing in London in WW2 Am also enjoying the new series on Regal Princess -reminds me how nice the atriums were on OV and OV2. Well Thomsons now have one on the Discovery. Also with all the lost luggage glad we fly and cruise with Thomsons Only ever knew of one lot of lost luggage and that was in Havana during the Dreams first season when Havana was a departure port and together with the Visa problems it's no wonder it got dropped - oh yes and the crap fuel the Cubans refuelled the boat with. Regal Princess is very new. Their kitchens are a sight to behold - sparkling stainless steel. The cabins look so modern as well but it's too big for me and I love proper ocean going liners with a promenade deck not a top heavy floating hotel so I won't be trying it even though the food looks fabulous
gillhalfpint Posted April 8, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 8, 2016 I loved watching the programme, but will stick with the smaller ships I love so much. Nearest I will get is Discovery in October - looking forward to that one.
Tarquin Posted April 9, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2016 I think the series pigeonholes cruising into big ship, overactive and sometimes gaudy territory. Too much about the characters and the usual 'jeopardy' that Tv seems to thrive on these days. Been trying to persuade my brother and sister to join us on a cruise but they want some downtime and owntime when away and the programmes suggest otherwise. PedroLeBlanc Posted April 11, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2016 I did not enjoy the series at all. The were of course, some nice standout moments, which were few and far between. I often "Lurch" on this site, read much more than I post and am fascinated at what makes people happy and what their cruise expectations are. The TV series is a pale reflection of that. On some sites, people ask as to what "VIP" status a Guest receives, after having so many cruises under their belt. On this site, its value for money, and what price a beer costs, as Thomson is a budget brand line, and the questions asked here reflect its image. I saw recently that British people were asking if Marmite was available on Royal Caribbean. Its amazing how such little things make or break a cruise. andy mac Posted April 11, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 11, 2016 (edited) enjoyed this program, still prefer smaller ships. Edited April 11, 2016 by andy mac
all-afloaty Posted April 11, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 11, 2016 I enjoyed the recent series much more than the first. I wouldn't mind trying a larger ship but will definitely be staying with Thomson or P&O not because they are budget or value for money but because I find the clientele much more attractive. Princess cruises seemed much more multi-national!
PedroLeBlanc Posted April 12, 2016 #11 Share Posted April 12, 2016 smaller ships are more intimate, more charming and You receive better service. The big ships have such an appeal. Much more dining options, more activities, and I wish the TV series would reflect this in the shows. Maybe a small vs bigger cruise ship experience.
