MaiTaiMary Posted March 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2016 We will be overnight in Puerto Vallarta. Day one is already planned. Day two we would like to just walk around a bit close to the terminal and grab a bite to eat. We're looking for restaurant suggestions. Something CASUAL with good Mexican food. Close to the cruise terminal. Thanks!:)
SadieN Posted March 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) There are a couple of restaurants at port and at the flea market at port. We've found the best food at the local mercados. Last cruise we are at the mercados for 4/5 ports. If you want to venture about 10 minutes from port... We found a mercado with many local restaurants on the perimeter. Sis and I ate at a place specializing in huaraches, a type of tostada. Total bill for two huaraches and two made-to-order Melon Agua Frescas was 97 pesos. Head towards Walmart, cross the main street at the light. Walk past (behind) Sam's Club. A few blocks up you'll see (IIRC at the first, could be second stop light, the cross street has a curb in the middle. Past the Chinese buffet with the busstop in front) a whole bunch of shops on the far right corner. Restaurants, produce and tortillerias will be surrounding the Mercado. There are several entrance hallways between these. Word of warning- the hallway had an odor but the market didn't. Barely any English. Probably best to use pesos We get pesos at Walmart by buying something small and paying with a $20US and getting pesos in change. Walmart has been giving $0.5peso off the official exchange rate. The mercado is at the first light after Sam's Club. The restaurant that had the huaraches is on Mar Caribe. To get there, make a right at the light (mercado isacross the street), then make a left at the first street. The restaurant is right next door to the Tortilleria. There are other places to eat in and around the mercado.
