Tips on final payment

We always add our gratuities when we book our cruise. That way it's already done and no surprise while onboard. LOL... Out of sight out of mind kind of thing! If the service is awesome (which it has been in the past) we just leave envelopes with extra cash to give at the end of our cruise.

Happy Sailing!

I don't prepay gratuities because then I would have to find something to buy with the onboard credits I usually get from price drops. Having the gratuities charged to my S&S is a great way to use those credits up instead of buying a few hundred dollars of stuff I wouldn't otherwise buy.

First time cruiser...Going in July.

We chose this option when we booked but I really do not understand it.

Is the staff aware somehow that we've prepaid our tips?

It's weird and I really don't get it.

Explain please?

They know who has paid tips and who has removed them after the cruise.

The tips will be added to your onboard account.

You can pay them early or just wait and pay on board.

The only cash tips would be for room service.

Back in the day we tipped in cash envelopes on the last day.

Now it is a preset amount.

It is easier and you can tip extra if you want, but it is not expected or required.

Some people have all their tips removed from the bill and the crew definitely knows.

Because, you know, everyone likes working for no pay.

Everything you want to know can be explained here for your understanding:

It's not that weird as almost every cruiseline has some form of standard gratuity/daily service charge (but I can see how it might be to a first-time cruiser).

If you want opinions on the gratuity/daily service charge, that's entirely different. Buckle your seat belt first - it's a bumpy ride.

A bumpy ride that never ends well. :)
