janica Posted October 13, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2005 We are seriously thinking about an Alaskan cruise for May 2006 (35th wedding anniversary!) We are just starting to research the trip and would love to go when we would most likely see whales. Would May be a good time, and if so, which itenerary? Thanks so much for your advice! Budget Queen Posted October 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 13, 2005 Yes may is good humpback watching. IF you are looking for orcas, total chance and not likely overall. Go out of Victoria BC or Friday Harbor, Wa if a priority for orcas, definately worth a couple days extra. As for humpbacks, again if a must do priority, then consider RCI and Celebrity and other's for Hoonah (Icy Strait) and Juneau. Be willing to invest a considerable amount of time out on a front deck with a good pair of wide angle binoculars. Look for a ship with a naturalist- Celebrity, not RCI, but verify next season. It pays to know the likley areas.
