Island Princess Staff Review

The only thing I am not looking forward to on our trip is the process of getting off. Especially with such an early arrival (6am). Luckily there is only one other ship in port that morning and they have an 8am docking time.
When we did the Island Princess Hawaii cruise, we too were in port at 6:00 a.m. Customs was after you left the ship. Disembarkation started at about 8:30 – we were off and through Customs by 9:45. I believe we had another ship in port with us but don’t know if they had to go through Customs or not. Even though it was relatively quick for us, it was easy to imagine how Customs could be overwhelmed.

It was just not what we were used to but it in no way ruined our vacation as some would have you think. The service is superior on HAL and since that's what we prefer that's where we will cruise again. Princess is not for us its just that simple. Different strokes for different folks.

You are very fortunate to have realized what cruise line suits your needs. I congratulate you on trying Princess and again for knowing that HAL is more to your liking without bashing the entire Princess line.

On a recent cruise on NCL Dawn we had a suite cabin (with butler) and the only "priority" I recall being involved in was on debarkation. We were told to go to one of their restaurants and wait to leave. It was packed but eventually one of the big-wigs came in and escorted us down back steps to the front of a line to leave the ship. There were no donuts or coffee in the lounge area during our wait. Recently on the RCI Voyager the atrium area of jammed packed with people waiting. With 3000 plus people you cannot expect stewarts walking around pouring coffee for you while you wait. It was available at one of the atrium bars, however. On the Diamond this summer, some colors were called out of order and someone at the pursers office informed us that the colors are released by customs, probably after they clear a luggage area. I don't know what else would be served by ship's staff milling about in the crowd to answer questions about how long it would be to get off---they generally don't know.

I think it was a good idea that you wrote the letter to describe the disapointemnts you had concerning your suite amenities. I am a big Princess fan, but it is obvious that unless you have sailed them as many times as some of us have you don't have a clue how to go about getting what you deserve and paid for no less. If I paid for a full suite I would be upset if I did not get what I paid for. One tip I can suggest is that anything regarding exchanges for soda's or F&B you call directly to room service for this.

I am not sure about the priority tenders as I have never used my tickets yet, but they were delivered on embarcation day and I know I was told that I could go directly to the front of the line. I get off the ship later than most, but may still have use for these some point so I hope someone gets back to us before my next cruise.

I hope you can give Princess another try. There is a lot of information on how to make PC dining work for you and with only 2 to a table.

Sorry the tender was so rough, but I have to say I am sure Princess would not overload the boat. They carefully count out each tender. Maybe more people should have gone up top or something.
