Caye Caulker vs. Rendezvous Caye

Can anyone help us make our decision in Belize- go and spend the day at Caye Caulker or go on the snorkel trip to Rendezvous Caye from the ship? We are doing the Rays, Reef, Rum point in Grand Cayman, so will snorkel and beach it all day, then some of us are going to the ruins on Costa Maya and some are just beaching it, then we will snorkel and snuba at Chankanaab Park in Cozumel, then shop and do Carlos and Charlie's. We are wary of the tenders into Belize and also don't know if we want to be at beach ALL day in Belize. The Rendezvous Caye sounds good because we would be done at noon and could possible go into town if we want or just hang on ship. Any suggestions? Is Caye Caulker THAT awesome? We have ruled out the jungly things in Belize- even though we would love to see the wildlife, have decided bugs and snakes aren't our bag!! Thanks fo any input- KT

Haven't been to Caye Caulker, but just got back from Rendevous - - wow, what a blast! We actually did the snuba excursion there and it was GREAT! The rum flows VERY FREE!! The little bitty patch of sand they call an island is very cool - - no trees, just a little sand. Plenty of floats and they have a few kayaks too - - both at no charge. You kinda laugh when you see the island but the water is gorgeous and again...the rum....oooh wee!

The Rendevous excursion picks you up and drops you off at the ship too! Since you're doing this in the afternoon, you won't have to worry about missing the boat! Enjoy - - and if you've never tried snuba, give it a shot! It's very easy and soooooo much better than snorkeling! Every four people have their own guide so you're very safe.

We just did the snorkel and beach at Rendezvous Caye last week (10/13). It was such great fun! The snorkel and snuba excursions all went out on the same boat. The snorkelers were down stairs and the snuba people were upstairs. The snuba-ing (is there such a word?) takes place off the front of the catamaran and the snorkeling goes off the back. Yes, the rum punch does flow!! But only after everyone is back on the boat headed for the Caye. It is the sweetest little beach ever. You can purchase food and drink there, and still continue to get your complimentary drinks off the catamaran. There are a few kayaks, many floats and lounge chairs, plus beach volleyball.

Ah ha! I wondered if we really stopped at Rendevous Caye - - wherever we stopped there certainly was no place to purchase food, much less enough room to set up a volleyball court. It truly was just a patch of sand. They set up a couple tables with coolers of punch in the middle of the 'island' so we didn't have to return to the boat for beverages. Wherever they took us, we loved it. It is a nice excursion because whether you choose to snorkel, power snorkel or snuba, you're all on the same boat, so it's a great 'family option'. We had a party of six - - four did snuba and two snorkeled. After that part, we all hung out together on the boat and island.

Has anyone done Rendezvous Caye lately? My husband would like to snorkel in Belize but I'd rather just do the beach. Do they take you to the beach first or will I just wait on the boat while he snorkels?

LOVED IT! We took a "local" boat out there for very little money - people were great and the island is so cool! The bar at the end has picnic tables IN THE WATER! It was great & they only have golf carts for transportation. We were afraid we would miss the ship so went back early & didn't really spend a lot of time there. LOVED IT!:) WOuld go again !

We will be there in 2 weeks, and that's what we are going to do. Everyone is worried about not getting back to the ship in time. Did you have any difficult times getting to Belize or the water taxi? Did you do your own excursion to the Island? Thank you for any info.

If you are talking about Caye Caulker, just leave when you are supposed to.

We did it in March and had no problems.

Just make sure you get the H20 taxi early, if you miss the 1st one go down a little further and there is another that leaves a little later.

Very laid back Island.
