Regguy Posted March 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2016 I just changed our flight home after our cruise. We leave Marco Polo at 2:40 p.m. It's kind of a crappy time -- not enough time to do too much in Venice before going to the airport, but late enough that we'll be in the airport too long if we leave right after disembarking. It looks like t we could get off the ship as early as 7:00 or so, or stay on board until around 9:15 or 9:30 at the latest. I was thinking we could get off the ship, take the people mover to Piazzale Roma and leave our bags there, and plan to be back in time to retrieve our bags and take a noon bus to the airport. Any thoughts on things to do in that time frame? It's a long travel day, so I'm not looking for anything strenuous -- but something that might be nice without feeling rushed or stressed about getting back to Piazzale Roma. Maybe a scenic cafe that isn't too overcrowded? Taking the water bus anywhere and back is kind of an expensive proposition -- there are four of us, and getting a day pass won't make sense, so we're probably looking at 60 euros if we can't walk. It's a Saturday if that makes a difference.
hkto Posted March 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) If you like museums can visit Gallerie dell'Accademia http://www.gallerieaccademia.org/?lang=en. We liked it a lot, mostly Italian art. Walk from Piazzale Roma is about 20 min. https://goo.gl/4cy7gf Edited March 16, 2016 by hkto
euro cruiser Posted March 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 16, 2016 Italians don't eat breakfast in the manner that North Americans do so if a good breakfast is important to anyone in your group you might consider staying on board at least long enough to get a good meal. After dropping your bags at Piazzale Roma I would suggest taking a walk through the Dorsoduro sestiere and avoiding the tourist meccas of San Marco and Rialto. There's more than enough there to fill your morning/early afternoon without museums or the need for vaporettos: http://en.turismovenezia.it/Venezia/The-sestiere-of-Dorsoduro-98518.html
