Dining room on freedom

What about a child age 9? Are nice shorts and polo ok on non formal nights?

The cruise line asks for no shorts in the evening, but feel free to ignore that as they won't enforce it anyhow.

I would also point out that it gets downright chilly in the main dining room. I always bring a sweater since it can be cold in there.

In general, it's up to the maitre d but I've seen everything from gym shorts to formal tuxes

 

Our rule of thumb, especially traveling with kids, as long as I'm dressed in business appropriate attire, it does not need to be formal to eat in the dining room on formal night.

Wouldn't it be easier just follow Freedom's diningroom guideline instead of getting advise from CC of how to get away with the guideline?
