How humid is it?

We leave on our Tahitian Princess cruise in just under 4 weeks and I am wondering if this is the humid time of year. On our first trip there 5yrs ago it was in January and my DH couldn't walk 100 ft without having his shirt stick to him. That was at a club med where the dress was Hawaiin shirts and shorts. Now we're going on a cruise and trying to decide what clothes to bring especially for formal nights. I expect the A/C on the ship will keep things cool inside so we want to dress for the evening. How many guys wear tuxes and ladies in full length gowns? Our last cruise was Crystal and people do dress up there no matter what the weather. So any suggestions for formal evenings and other evenings as far as what to wear? :p

We are on the boat right now. Surprising the weather is perfect. High 80 and not too humid at all. However I know that is not always the case. As far as formal night, most people were dressed very formal. Many men in tuxedos or in black suits.

  • 2 weeks later...

We just got back from the cruise in early September..temps were usually in the 80's on average. We did have some rainy and overcast days here and there..but overall nice trip. I too was concerned about the whole dress up thing in a tropical trip, but I found that they kept the ship too darned cold for my tastes and I was glad I brought a merino wool knitted wrap I had knit so I could toss it around my shoulders in the lounge during shows and in the casino bar. Since you are inside during the formal stuff..pictures, dinner, etc..you will find teh ship very air conditioned and will not really realize you are in a tropical locale unless you stepped out on deck in the evening which we rarely did ourselves..

You will find some islands more humid than others and dress as light as you can! I brought alot of linen stuff to wear in the evenings and during the day on the islands, it was either just a swimsuit with a simple tshirt and shorts over it (or pareo) if I was doing a water excursion and if I was doing a land based..just a tee shirt with my shorts or I had a short linen skirt I liked to wear and my chaco sandals(similar to Tevas). You don't need much else!! Keep it simple when it comes to dressing and packing!

Have fun!

The months Nov/Dec/Jan always are more humid than the rest of the year, last year it was extremely humid, so much that we were expecting at least one cyclone but fortunately that never happened. Make sure you have lots of natural fibre clothing like cotton and linen orso and drink lots of water. Some people tend to get swollen ankles or "heavy legs" I believe vitamine B6 (?) will help you through that.
