Raxter54 Posted March 25, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2016 We will be driving to Galveston for our February Freedom cruise. I was wondering if anyone had an idea what traffic would be like driving thru Houston on a Saturday morning. Wanted to know so I can plan on when to hit Houston and still make it to Galveston around noon. Thanks!

Wanted to know so I can plan on when to hit Houston and still make it to Galveston around noon. Thanks! I would try to hit Houston by 10 am. From where I live (80 miles north of Galveston), it takes me about an hour and twenty minutes with no traffic. That's if I leave before 9. If I leave after 10, traffic backs up (I-45) in places on the north and south side of downtown Houston, even on the weekends.

Looks like we may need to hit the road early to avoid traffic.

I assume you are coming in 59 north? It's actually the better of all the freeways around Houston traffic wise (IMHO-I live off 45 north). You might consider taking the 610 east loop off of 59 to 45 south. It will put you on 45 south of downtown Houston. It's a few more miles, but on a Saturday morning should be clear. I take the loop myself when going to Galveston.

A few extra miles would be worth missing traffic :-)
TruckerDave Posted March 28, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2016 Unless there is an accident or some sort of road construction (which might happen as TX is one of the SLOOOOOOWEST states when it comes to actually finishing any road work) you wont have any problems. Friday afternoon at 5pm then I would give you another route, but on a sat/sun morning just blast right through downtown.
