thecruisers723 Posted April 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2016 We will be in Hollywood near the Chinese Theater on a Friday afternoon this coming May. We have tickets for a Dodgers game that starts at 7:10PM that we will be driving to. I would think the traffic is bad, but don't know how bad. What time should be be on our way from the Chinese Theater area to make it to the game by about 6:00.
SadieN Posted April 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2016 It's a short drive but still can take almost an hour, depending. Rush hour starts around 4:30. In LA it seems if you leave early you'll encounter no problems. If you leave at 'the right time' you'll encounter several traffic issues. Leave early. Parking opens 2.5 hours before the game, gates open 2 hours before. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
GrandBistro Posted April 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2016 On a Friday afternoon, a 15 mile trip can easily take over an hour. There is usually quite a bit of congestion getting into Dodger Stadium and getting parked, too. If you want to make it easier on yourself, you can purchase preferred parking for $35 online or $50 on entry. Or you can pre-purchase offsite parking for $5- but give yourselves an extra 10-15 minutes for the walk. Nothing in LA is easy, and Friday nights are the worst. If you want to be in your seats at 6 pm, leave Hollywood no later than 4:45. Good luck! I'm trying to decide myself when I'll get to Dodger Stadium this season- Vin Scully's farewell. wheezedr Posted April 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2016 You could be like most Dodger fans and arrive in the third inning with plans to leave by the seventh. Go Giants!!
Bruin Steve Posted April 6, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 6, 2016 It won't just be the traffic... Depending on where you end up parking, there may be a decent walk from your car to your seats...and where you enter the stadium depends on where your seats are and on which deck... As to getting there, you may want to avoid the freeway route most GPS units will take you--101 to 110 North to Stadium Way...Which goes through a major Downtown intersection and instead use the Scott Avenue back door--101 to Alvarado north, right on Scott and into the stadium...or, if the 101 is bad, Hollywood Blvd to Sunset to a left on Alvarado or, better, Echo Park...and right on Scott into the Stadium...Locals know this route...and it's a narrow residential street...but you avoid the usual rush hour freeway stuff... Check the traffic at the time before you choose... Remember, 56,000 other people are also trying to get to the Stadium at the same time...while millions are leaving work and trying to get home... SadieN Posted April 6, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) An alternative to parking at the stadium is to take the Red line from Hollywood/Highland to Union Station ($1.75 each way + $1 TAP Card) https://www.metro.net/riding/maps/red-line/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Line_(Los_Angeles_Metro) https://www.metro.net/around/dodger-stadium http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/la/ballpark/transportation/index.jsp?content=express http://m.yelp.com/biz/dodger-stadium-express-los-angeles Could make an afternoon of it....go to Union Station and check out and have lunch at Olvera Street or China Town then continue on to the Stadium. thecruisers723 Posted April 6, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted April 6, 2016 Thanks all. We actually purchased reserved parking in one of the adjacent lots to the stadium.
