Arrive for embarkation at 930am or 11am?

I have two options for arrival time... Galveston Express has a shuttle that arrives at 930am and 11am. My check-in time is at 10am. Which one should I choose? I know I can't enter the terminal till 10 am. Will there be a big difference on what time I actually get on the ship if I arrive at 930am apposed to 11am ? Thanks

All I know is you can't board until the time designated so you would have to wait. It is my understanding you are suppose to be there for your boarding. I would go at 9 and just wait.

Since checkin time and boarding time are different, you can arrive at 9:30, wait until ten for checkin, and then wait to board the ship after the wedding parties, diamonds, platinums, FTTF and casino fares (if any) board, which usually starts around 11:30AM. That's if the ship isn't delayed due to weather or fog.

You can take the later shuttle, arrive at the terminal @ 11AM, do the checkin, and then wait for the procedure described above to commence.

Your choice.

You will get on board earlier if you get the shuttle that arrives at 9:30. Since you will be checking in earlier, you will get an earlier boarding zone, which will let you get on sooner. Since you have the earliest check in time you can really do either one depending on your preference.

Not in Galveston... You will not be allowed into the building until 10AM (your assigned check in time), so getting there early just means waiting outside the building.

As was said above, since the ship will likely not even start boarding until 11:30 or so, getting to the dock at 11 sounds like you will do less waiting overall.

You can always enter the terminal any time after your listed check in time. Just remember that you have to carry with you until the rooms open at 1:30 all of your carry-on luggage even if you are on the ship. They serve lunch until 3 pm so missing lunch is a total non-issue. It depends on how long you want to schlep your luggage. Personally I rarely check in prior to 1 pm. At that time it is check-in, and board almost immediately. Drop off luggage and then head to the buffet without any carry-on. Totally works for us.

I would advise you to make up your mind before you run out of any options. I, personally would take the 9:30 shuttle. Even if it arrived exactly on time, (yeah right) you still have to schlep your luggage out of the shuttle and give to porters. Then by the time you get to the entry door, it will probably be close to or past your check in time. Sounds pessimistic but it is a reality of how things can work out. Have a great cruise!!!

We were on the Magic out of Galveston last month. We arrived at 9:30. I know they say they won't let you in the terminal before your scheduled time. Our check in time was 10. We were allowed in the terminal right away. I guess because it is the first scheduled time and all the FTTF, Diamond, and Platinum people could arrive when ever they want, they let us in. And most of the FTTF arrive early. Later check in times were made to wait until their time.

Check in was quick but boarding wasn't. It got very crowded in the terminal and I was happy to have a seat in a good location. They made everyone sit in a seat before they would start boarding. They didn't start boarding until after 12:30 and of course that was the wedding parties.

I know you can't get in until your check in time, but what I meant was that if you check in at 10:00 AM, then you will get an earlier boarding zone than if you check in at 11:00 AM. So let's say you check in at 10 and get zone 1 or 2 boarding, but if you check in at 11 you might get zone 7 or 8 boarding. Getting there early gives you the best chance to board early.

I don't know if the OP cares about getting on board earlier, but I was just pointing out how to do that.

Forgive me if this has been asked a hundred times. I last sailed in January on the Fascination and they didn't have the staggered boarding. If I am platinum, and they gave me a time of 10am, do I have to go at 10am? We are going on the Breeze and I am never in a rush to get to the ship, but someone said if I don't board at my exact time I have to wait until later? So now I'm confused.

thanks,

Kathy

You will be able to choose your time for boarding when completing your on line check in. If you don't choose one Carnival will choose one for you. If you are Platinum you can arrive at your leisure. That means when you want. Before or after your scheduled time. You will not have to wait until later. The only people you have to wait are those that aren't Diamond, Platinum, Suite, or FTTF that arrive before their scheduled time. If they arrive after their scheduled time they are allowed to check in then and not wait until later.

Who ever told you that was incorrect, you can arrive later than the time you chose just not earlier. And it is not staggered boarding time, you choose your staggered check in time. Being Platinum, you can go whenever you want to but my question is why were you assigned a time? Did you not have the option to choose your time?
