We will be at this port in July from noon to 8 pm. Anyone been here recently? Any recommendations on what to do, tour guides, etc. would be appreciated.

Go to Knossos. Very easy to do by public bus.

You should definitely visit the Palace of Knossos and the archaeological museum. The city is full of history so you might want to consider hiring a guide. Try the bogatsa at Kir Kor in the main square (Liontaria) and have a Greek frappe (coffee) at the cafeteria. I highly recommend Central near the Liontaria Square.
