Rare kjquilts Posted May 16, 2016 #27 Share Posted May 16, 2016 Few more Icy Strait Point photos for you. Sorry about the spots on some of them. We didn't eat here (ate lunch in a very little place in Hoonah) but it was popular. Shops in this building had very nice quality items not outrageously priced. No Diamond Internationals in ISP. If you walk from ISP to Hoonah there is a nice path that runs along next to the road that goes around the point. The path narrows just as you enter Hoonah because they're working on the road there. This photo shows the Shuttle waiting area ($5 per person round trip) This is the shuttle. Hoonah is VERY small - one drop off and pick up point. We were glad we took the shuttle because it's a little further than we thought it was.
RoxiRoo Posted May 16, 2016 Author #28 Share Posted May 16, 2016 Gosh you had BEAUTIFUL weather! Thanks so much for the pictures! We arrive in port at 3:30 and then have a 3 hour whale tour. I am almost sad now because it looks like a beautiful village that would be fun to explore. We will have some time later in the dark to explore - guess that will do! Rare kjquilts Posted May 16, 2016 #29 Share Posted May 16, 2016 Here are a few shots from Hoonah taken within one block area across the road from the shuttle drop off point. The greenish building to the right of the boat carving demo area is where we ate. Unfortunately I can't remember the name. We split a salmon salad sandwich and fries - food was very good. You walk around to the back of this building to see the carvers and carving inside Final photo from Icy Strait Point / Hoonah is of the eagle who was kind enough to pose for us We loved this port stop and are happy we'll be returning on the Sun 14 Day Ultimate Alaska cruise next May. ISP is very different from the other ports we've been to. Obviously everyone doesn't feel the same because one lady I talked to could not wait to get to Ketchikan - ISP was way too small for her. Your whale tour should be great and Icy Strait Point is a great place to do one. It does not get dark until late so you should be fine exploring the port area after your tour. I hope your weather is as good as ours was.

Any advice on what to see in the evening? We are in port 3-10. Our excursion will be 3:30 to 7:00 and according to the weather sites, sunset is 7:23 on the day we will be there. Thank you in advance! tree.star Posted May 17, 2016 #33 Share Posted May 17, 2016 Here are some additional photos from ISP. 1. Walking on the platform towards the Adventure Center. 2. Not a great shot, but this is the inside of the Adventure Center. The door on the far side is the one you come into after coming off the dock. To the left of this photo is a little coffee shop area, and to the right near the entrance are some souvenirs for sale, and restrooms. To the immediate right of this photo is a shore excursion desk/meeting area. 3. Our docked ship, as seen from land. 4. The path along the water between the dock and Hoonah, looking back at the dock. We saw so many whales in ISP, it was amazing! We didn't have an excursion here, but found we didn't need one because the whale watching along this walk to/from town as well as from the cruise ship was an all day event. We saw a whale watching excursion out on the water that was even closer to the whales, lucky them!
