fsdj1097 Posted April 25, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2016 We will spend two days in Machu Picchu this May. Since we'll be arriving by train, on the first day, we'll arrive just after noon. We plan on arriving in MP early on the second morning to view the sunrise. Looking at the 'Average' temperatures for MP during May, it appears that the mornings will be fairly cool, with lows in the low 40s and daytime highs in the 60s. We're planning on layering with base layers of medium weight thermal tops and bottoms, blue jeans and long sleeve shirts, and then a wind/rain proof jacket over that. We'll have gloves and hats, of course ,for the early mornings. We have comfortable walking/hiking shoes and smartwool socks. For those of you who have experienced MP during May, does this clothing sound adequate? Thanks, in advance, for your replies.
maryann ns Posted April 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2016 I have not been to Machu Picchu in May but with those temperatures you should be fine though you may not need to bottom thermals. Or go with light weight bottom long underwear and pants which are a bit lighter than denim (chinos perhaps) and take a sunhat and sunscreen. We will definitely take the hats and sunscreen! DW has red hair and is fair complexion. She burns very easily. Did you find that the humidity was low while you were in MP? I know that when we camp in the Rocky Mountains here in the U.S. we need to keep plenty of moisturizing lip balm or our lips will crack after a day or so. maryann ns Posted April 28, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 28, 2016 It was hot and sunny the September day we were there, and yes, it was dry.
