Cruising Cindy Lou Posted April 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Going to be in Aruba next April. Is renting a car a good option? How is the driving in Aruba? We rented a car in St Thomas and no issues. We were in St Marteen Last week and don't think I would feel comfortable in that kind of traffic and driving conditions. What are the hot/must see spots on a first visit?
RSF Cruiser Posted April 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2016 We rented a car from Alamo when we were there a few years ago. Alamo picked us up at the dock and took us to the airport where we got our car. We had plenty of time to see all of the sights, at our own pace and loved it. There's lots of information about the island on the internet and this board - we used the car rental map, which had easy directions for everything - the beaches, light house, church, natural bridge, ruins from pirate days. etc. With a little effort on your part to figure out what you enjoy doing, you'll have a great day. The island isn't that big, so it's easy to encircle it during your port day. We appreciated the flexibility of having our own transportation and setting our own pace. mmn531 Posted June 30, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2016 Agree that renting a car is a nice way to get around. We used Avis many years ago and in about 5 hours saw everything we wanted to see on the island plus a few things we did not ;). Teh driving was easy and I do not recall any more craziness than you would see in the average large city in the States. Have fun!!
seashinesunshine Posted July 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 4, 2016 Do they drive on the left or right side of the road and is your State drivers license good enough to use to drive there?
Leavethekidswithmom Posted July 5, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 5, 2016 State DL is good and yes drive on right with lots of roundabouts, not many traffic lights.

We just got our first roundabout in our town so we are all practiced up. Mostly practiced at being patient with people who have no idea how to use one. :D
sjb.illinois Posted August 14, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2016 I'm glad to have found this thread - I think we'll do this in November. It'll give us the freedom to see whatever we want, on our schedule.
