lakelivin2 Posted April 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2016 I will be in Cartagena on a Monday  (sites such as museums etc. are all closed on Mondays according to websites) and am wondering what there is to do on a Monday. I know I can walk around and stop in at a cafe or churro shop, but, anyone know what else if available? I've heard that sites could open on Mondays if cruiseships are in port. Has anyone experienced this? Do I have to be on a tour to get in on Mondays? Thanks
campolady Posted April 27, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2016 I have not heard of the amphitheatre/other sites opening on a Monday even when a ship is in port. However, if you email the tourist information department at Cartagena Town Hall they will be able to tell you for sure infoturismo@ayto-cartagena.es

lakelivin2 Posted April 28, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted April 28, 2016 Just got a note back from the tourist office. Thanks for the advice! As follows: Good morning: We regret to tell you that we haven't the timetable of museums yet but, normally, when a cruiseship arrives to Cartagena on Monday we try to open several museums for tourist above all, the most important as The Roman Theatre Museum, the Roman Forum or the Conception Castle. However, It would be better if you could write us again in September to confirm all of this information. Kind Regards, Ana Salazar

ruthnewark Posted May 10, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) We were in Cartagena last year on a cruise on a Monday, and they opened the museums etc. We didn't know this till we got there, so it was quite a relief.I think they opened a bit later than usual, maybe 11am. You don't need to be on a tour, we went as individuals. It's a lovely city, what a pleasant day we had there. The museum attached to the amphitheatre that you go through as part of your ticket was great. And a great place to wander round. Enjoys yourselves ! CRUISEBOY305 Posted May 18, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 18, 2016 I was just in Cartagena a few weeks ago and the museums opened around 9ish even though all their info said 10am. Perhaps they may open Monday if there is a ship in port....
