tree.critter Posted May 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) Cruise Radio is reporting that Carnival is dropping its partnership with George Lopez effective June 1. I haven't seen or heard anything else, surprised to not see it here....anyone that can verify? Do you think it will have any negative effect on the comedy shows? Steve Dore Posted May 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) In my opinion, it will not change a thing. I find the quality of the comedians to be the same as pre-George Lopez. If anything, Carnival probably saves money by no longer paying George Lopez for the use of his name/likeness. Maybe Carnival realized the changes it undertook a few years ago to associate products/services with celebrities or companies (George Lopez, Guy Fieri, EA Sports, etc.) are no longer financially worth it? BlazinSunsets Posted May 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 3, 2016 I don't think it will change anything either. A comedian booking a cruise as a gig isn't going to suddenly think 'oh no it's not George Lopez's comedy club anymore, so I won't do it', they usually just appreciate the work and the unique opportunity to do a cruise ship. As long as they don't drop their pay to the comedians then they will still get quality talent. Last few comedians I have seen have been really funny, at least for the late adult shows. It's a Ship!!! Posted May 3, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2016 The only things this will really change are the names of some venues. The Punchliner Comedy Club presented by George Lopez will now be the Punchliner Comedy Club.
