billrco90278 Posted May 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2016 After gong to Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg., we would like to see some of the city. Are taxi drivers in Hamburg amenable to driving around the sights before dropping us off back at the ship? What kind of a price should we expect per hour in a taxi? JMHamburg Posted May 11, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2016 After spending a morning at Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg., we would like to see some of the city. Are taxi drivers in Hamburg amenable to driving around for a look at the city before dropping us off back at the ship? We are not looking for a guide, just a driver who will point sights out. What kind of a price should we expect per hour in Hamburg? I'm afraid, that you would really have to be a very lucky one to find such a taxi driver, they might be overtaxed here, even with english language sometimes. From Miniatur Wunderland (situated in the UNESCO World Heritage Warehouse District), it's just some minutes of walking to the main shopping streets, our famous Rathaus (city hall) with Alster lake or the harbor front with all the boat tour offers (Hafenrundfahrt - at least one with english audio guide). Don't hesitage to ask, if you still have questions. Dora the Hamburg Hop on-Hop off bus stop at Altona cruise port and near Miniatur Wunderland? At least 1 Hop on-Hop off bus stops at the cruise terminal Altona, but public bus line 111 serves both the cruise terminal ('Kreuzfahrtterminal Altona'), and it stops next to the Miniatur Wunderland (station 'Am Sandtorkai'), every 20 minutes during daytime. You can also take the harbor ferry from Dockland pier right next to the cruise terminal; departs every 15 minutes. You can purchase a day ticket ('Tageskarte'; EUR 6.20; available mo to fr from 9am, weekend and public holidays from midnight), and you can use every public bus / train / ferry within Hamburg metropolitan area all the day long. Thank you for all the information which is a huge help for planning our day in Hamburg. Is there a bus or tram line that goes from the Rathaus area to the Altona cruise terminal? Is it easy to get a taxi in Hamburg?
JMHamburg Posted May 13, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2016 Is there a bus or tram line that goes from the Rathaus area to the Altona cruise terminal? Is it easy to get a taxi in Hamburg? From Rathaus you can take metro line 'U3' to 'Landungsbrucken', and change to bus line '111' or the harbor ferry (much more interesting than the bus) there. Hamburg does not have a tram. Metro lines (called 'U-Bahn') and busses are video surveillanced. Taxi from Rathaus to Altona may cost you at least EUR 15, and would take 15 to 20 minutes. Getting a taxi in Hamburg is always easy, if I don't need it *lol*, but at Rathaus you may find some of them everytime ...
billrco90278 Posted May 15, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted May 15, 2016 Thank you again for the information. Minatur Wunderland then the central city in one day looks very doable.
Scriv Posted May 15, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 15, 2016 (edited) Be prepared to have a little rest and refreshments after your visit to Miniatur Wunderland as there is so much to take in there. It is really fantastic with so much detail. Did it at New Year. :) Edited May 15, 2016 by Scriv
