Hello I have a few questions if anyone could help answer. We are a family of 7 that includes 5 teenagers on our first cruise ever.We visit San Juan on our 3rd day. My hubby wants to visit the Rum factory while we are there. Now my questions are

1 Is the Rum Factory in San Juan or on another island that we can visit while in port?

2 What activites are there for the teens (13-19) to enjoy while we tour the Rum factory?

Any suggestions are helpful?

Forget the ship's tour and catch the ferry from San Juan, or better still buy a bottle of rum in the duty free.

For teens suggest paddle boarding http://www.velauno.co

There are no activities for the kids where the rum factory is. It is a 5 minute ferry ride across the bay (trips are about every 15-30 minutes) and cost $0.50 each way. Take a taxi for about $3-4 per person each way to/from the factory. Do your research on the types of tours the factory does since a lot of people go expecting a certain type of tour. Go to the Casa Bacardi website for more info on prices, types of tours and hours and plan your trip accordingly. There are not really not any other activities at the factory or it's vicinity for the kids. If they are not interested in the factory and there's no one to chaperone them around Old San Juan, they could always stay on the ship.

I would skip the rum factory. You only tour a mock up of parts of it. Having said that, the kids might enjoy it, the grounds are pretty, but its not that exciting.

Now the ferry ride over, that was kind of cool and worth 50 cents just for a fun boat ride. we got kind of close to a few of the big container type ships and enjoyed it. :)
