alwaysfrantic Posted May 12, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2016 It is still early for hotels to have the rooms loaded for next year but I am curious how the HAL pricing would be to stay a few extra nights after a cruise. Is their pricing about the same as what I could get directly from a hotel, or is higher/lower? Will they offer a few choices of hotels?
CowPrincess Posted May 12, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2016 It has been my experience that the pricing through HAL is higher than I pay when I deal directly with the hotel.
Wehwalt Posted May 12, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2016 When I looked into one a year or so ago in Vancouver, it was higher. I didn't take it.
avian777 Posted May 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2016 We have always gotten better rates directly from the hotel (or one of the online booking sites) than what HAL has quoted us for the same rooms on the same date(s), and that is true for several port cities and not just Vancouver. Check around - you'll be amazed at what you can dig up on your own. Good luck and smooth sailing.
Krazy Kruizers Posted May 12, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 12, 2016 I always book our own hotels. HAL charges higher prices -- we checked them our for a South American cruise a number of years ago.
Rare chefestelle Posted May 13, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2016 Vancouver prices are staggering when it's summer or when sporting events etc are in town. This last couple of years that has been almost continuous. Having said that, if you book well in advance off any of those various booking sites, you get very good rates (comparatively) and nothing gets added on for HAL. Of course, you're on your own to get you and your luggage to the ship but transportation is a breeze in Vancouver (if you're not driving yourself [emoji33]). I would keep checking the booking sites for the hotels to open up and then start shopping around. As soon as you get a rate you like, grab it and don't look back. I stayed at the Pinnacle last fall. City was insanely expensive except there. This was the Pinnacle Harbourfront Hotel, not the Marriott Pinnacle - though I'm sure it's lovely (and its across the street) or the Pinnacle in North Vancouver (though that one is related). If you get in on a deal, it's quite lovely. Used to be the Rennaissance, I think. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

We can assess long weekend demands and special events that can spike prices. Most look for hotels near the cruise terminal.... but with a little imagination.... reasonable prices can be found a few blocks or going suburban. Aegis1984 Posted May 13, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2016 I always book my own. My employer has a very agreeable employee discount rate with many hotel groups, which make it hard to say no. However, I still run into limited/no availability for corporate rates or overbooking due to major events (ie. Grey Cup, PNE, big headliner concert, etc). My go-to is either the Sandman on West Georgia or the River Rock Hotel and Casino which is in Richmond. The Sandman is 1 block easy walk away from the Stadium Skytrain line, and I've had rooms as low as $85/night. The River Rock is 3 stops from the airport on the Canada Line Skytrain and I have not had a bad experience staying with them. I even met Jerry Springer there (No, not for having done anything morally repugnant) when he hosted "The Price is Right: Live".
