Shore excursions britannia canary islands cruise

Is it easy to book local buses, taxis, cars etc at the various ports of call in the canary islands rather than using p&o's shore excursions as experience tells us that is usually a cheaper option

Playa de Las Teresitas, Tenerife bus 910 runs from bus stop to the right just outside cruise port entrance, 2 euros each way approx., nice beach with warm water.

I know that this is not a DIY but we did a jeep safari on Britannia last August in Madeira. We were there for 2 days so this was on our second day. It was brilliant with lots of off road driving. The other day we did it ourselves and walked to the cable car up to the gardens.
