A few words of our Breakaway Trip

My DW and I just returned last week from our Mothers Day vacation on the Breakaway. This was our first time on the BA and first time in the Haven so just wanted to shed some light on things I have heard on these boards.

1. The Haven is as great as everyone says, we had aft penthouse 14872 and it is a good ways away from the Haven but size of cabin and HUGE balcony make up for it in my opinion. We did however only see our bulter 2-3 times throughout the week but we were just fine with that.

2. All the blah blah blah about the pool bars being 4-5 people deep, bartenders being rude, waiting forever for drinks. etc.....well, we saw absolutey none of this activity on this voyage. The capt even told us we were sailing at near full capacity. Brought a pack of 50 single dollars to use as tips and didnt even use them all. By the second day, 3 different bars all over the ship all knew my name and what we both liked to drink.. so I didnt see any of the crazy bar problems I have heard so much about.

3. We did have the 4 day dining package and we used them all in different restaurants and they were all wonderful. No issues at all with them either. We did make all our reservations before boarding.

4. Priority embarkation and disembarkation.....we did hear some people snicker that we were boarding before anyone else and also getting off in a special line that the conceirge escorted us to and here is my response to that. You get what you pay for!!!! enough said about that

Any questions anyone may have about the breakaway or bermuda please feel free to ask. Thanks and YES!! I would book the BA again!:D:D

I have a question regarding WiFi terms and conditions per NCL site

"One login per stateroom.

On Breakaway, stateroom receives an internet package of 300/1000 MB of data respectively.

Internet package includes activation fee."

I have iPhone and iPad

Are they considered one login each?

Thanks for any assistance

Connect to wifi with your iPhone. Set up your iPhone as wifi hotspot. Connect to your iPhone with your iPad. Now both will have Internet and share the connection.

Weird, I was on the same cruise and was told they were only 3/4 full. Empty tables at both Savor and The Manhattan Room around 6:30. We had reservations for 4 at Teppanyaki on the last night. We were the only people in the entire room off to the side. We had a "private" dinner.

Bartenders were somewhat rude I thought. First bartender I encountered said it was difficult and a lot of work to make a Miami Vice (because it requires mixing two separate drinks). He recommended we ordered a Bahama Mama, especially at the busy times of day...

Would you happen to have any pictures of the cabin and balcony? We're staying in that room on our cruise in September. Also, I've read that some people were bothered by the noise from the parties at H2O; did you have any issues? TIA

Missed meeting you at the M&G and seeing your cabin at the cabin crawl. I was in 9916 I think your room was a different configuration than mine. (My room had the living and bathroom facing the balcony)

Since we had the butler bring us breakfast daily I swear we must have seen him at least 3 times daily.

And I agree about the walk vs the room & balcony. Room and balcony size will always win. After ALL the food I ate I welcomed the walk. lol

Yes I did miss the meet and Greet. Sorry, my wife had a spa thing booked that took 2 hours and didnt know it would take that long. I felt weird showing up to the meet and greet alone. I will post some pics of the cabin for our setup was backwards from yours. Our bedroom had the other entrance to the balcony instead of the windows in the bathroom that you probably had.:)

I will post some pics for you. No issues at ALL with the noise from spice, it is actually 2 floors up(garden cafe in between). We did find a youtube video of our cabin right before we left if you would like to check it out. Just type in Norwegian Breakaway aft cabin 14872 on the youtube search and you will find it! ;)

You can't set up a WiFi hotspot from WiFi on an iPhone. You can only do it from cellular. I don't most would want to do that!

The one login means you can only have one login at a time but NOT limited to one device.... you can use iPhone, iPad, laptop, tablet, Android Kindle, Fire, etc..... but only one login (connection) at a time.

As mentioned, the wifi hotspot is only configurable if you have a cellular data connection and that would crush your roaming bill with your carrier because that's independent of the Breakaway Wi-Fi.

Important to follow the onboard directions and logoff each session to stop the "wifi data clock".... and use airplane mode for iPhone \ iPad

Oh wow!! This blows my mind!! I understand it might take a little longer, but it's not my problem, and I shouldn't be asked to order something else simply because it takes longer to make the drink I like!! Honestly, I'd rather hear "Sorry, we can't make that right now." than for them to suggest I should order something more convenient for them.

So glad you enjoyed your cruise~honestly I have never had a bad cruise. I have loved them all~did you go to Spice H2O at all? If you did, can you tell me if there is a pool there or just hot tubs? We are going in July and it is going to be HOT, so we like to be near a pool. Also, does the main pool area get very crowded during at sea days? Thanks again~Happy Cruising :D

Hi, Spice has two hot tubs and no pool.... the only pool is the main one and it will be super crowded on sea days especially if the weather is hot... My wife and I were on the Breakaway in March and the pool area was very crowded!!

My wife and I both ordered Miami Vice a few times on this same cruise and never had any trouble getting it or did they offer us something else so Im not sure how that worked. We got them both at the pool bar and the Atrium bar:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thanks for the heads up on the Youtube video of the cabin. When I was booking our room I couldn't find any pictures or videos specific to that room, so this definitely helps. Looking forward even more about our upcoming trip!

Thank you so much~we will be up early and hopefully get a lounger by the main pool on the upper deck!! Wonder why they only have 1 pool on such a large ship? Oh well, we can't wait and hope you enjoyed your cruise!!:D

i see the previous post about logging in and sharing plans. if you can log off one device and then on the other device using the same password etc, that is fantastic

we are both getting the 10 dollar calling app on our phones but to be able to share the data bucket is fantastic. i dont think ive seen this info on the board anywhere else and ive been reading the iconcierge threads

luckyinpa, just to be clear.... the iConceirge app is completely independent from the ship's wifi package..... all the registered devices in your cabin will be on iConceirge at the same time.... I found the iConceirge app to work great (text and voice) but just remember to text and call from within the app or you run the risk of accidently using your wireless carrier's international roaming plans which can be very expensive..

Cruise was great and I'm sure you can find a spot or two..... my thought is that a pool is not a revenue generator and there's only so much real estate on a ship that can bring in money.

Have a great cruise yourself!!

Thanks for the review on Breakaway. My family is considering a cruise on Breakaway out of NYC for next May to Bermuda too. I'm worried about the weather and choppy seas as I'm prone to seasickness. How were the seas sailing out of NYC to Bermuda and how was the weather in Bermuda? I understand Bermuda is not as hot as the Caribbean which is good but does it rain a lot in May. Have never cruised to Bermuda, always to the Caribbean, so not sure what to expect. I wanted to visit NYC and the NCL cruise to Bermuda also sails out of NYC so I can kill two birds with one stone! Thanks for your input.

May is Bermuda's lowest rainfall.
