Recent Uber Expericent from MIA to Fort Lauderdale?

We are a family of 4 that will be cruising out of Port Everglades in August. I am considering flying in and out of MIA strictly because of costs but am trying to figure out how we would get to our hotel in FLL and our return trip from the port back to MIA.

 

Has anyone recently taken Uber from MIA to get to their hotel in Fort Lauderdale or from Port Everglades back to MIA? Was it simple enough and less expensive than a taxi? I've never done Uber and have to admit I'm a little apprehensive especially with kids.
