Hurricane Wilma & Their Names

Recommended Posts

First of all my heart goes out to you Americans in the South & all hurricane areas that have been hit lately by the storms. Here in Scotland we thought we had bad weather but I have stopped complaining when the wind gets up a little. What does confuse me is "Where do the names of the hurricanes come from?" I wish everyone of you going on a cruise during this season a very safe vacation.

There is an international meteorlogical society that comes up with the lists of names. The lists are used in a 6 year rotation. They alternate boys and girls names. And they use English, Spanish, and French names. Any really deadly or distructive names are retired so it is definitely assured that Katrina will not be another hurricane name every again.

As to what happens after Wilma, if any more storms come up, they start using the Greek alphabet.
