Yes, it goes up to tables for eight, although there are precious few of those.

The key is in coordinating the reservation, which can be awkward with some stateroom categories having different reservation access, and remembering that whoever requests the reservation, everyone at the table uses one of their "guaranteed" nights in the Specialties.

We were in a shared 8 top on Marina in Toscana last week. Just inside the entrance. Too big for conversation.

I agree that those tables for 8 are too large for conversation, and it's even worse for the neighboring tables since the people at the bigger table are literally yelling at each other in order to be heard. It's not so bad with a table for 6.

 

The one exception was a recent cruise where a group of deaf people sat each night at a table for 8 or 10. But since they spoke with sign language, they weren't "loud"! And it was fun watching them because they were all so animated and seemed to be having a marvelous time.
