SuiteCruiser Posted June 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2016 Just off of another weekend getaway on the Sky. I often hear complaints about this ship, especially after it went with its open bar change. We had excellent food and service in Le Bistro, Cagneys and Il Adagio, moreso than any of my last cruises. The wait staff was very attentive but not bothersome. They still use the old menus, which was a treat after a couple of sailings with the new menus, nice to see some old favourites. Highlight was the Coq au vin in Le Bistro, it was the very best I've had. The casino is small and if you sail regularly enough, you get to know the staff. The manager Quasi and host Maria area amazing and were the ones that made my birthday so special last year. Quasi called on Saturday morning and offered us (3 friends sailing in single balcony cabins) breakfast and lunch in Cagney's for the cruise, which was really great. I live in Canada, so regularly sailing on the Sky is once every 4-6 months, but they remember you and look after you. Staterooms were good, balcony's clean and we got to GSC, which is awesome. Spent the Nassau port day resting and hanging by the pool. Came home refreshed and ready to get back at it.
ChicagoBarb Posted June 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2016 Happy to hear you had a great time. I heard about the storm but didn't pay much attention to where it hit in Florida. I thought about you guys being stuck in bad weather. Obviously not.....

Hot but not too hot, water at GSC was perfect :)
dolita22 Posted June 7, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 7, 2016 Thanks for this! Sailing the Sky on the 20th after having sailed the Escape and Epic, so looking forward to the small-ship experience again. :) Sailing with a number of first-time cruisers in our group, too, so I'm excited to see their reactions to cruising. redfantum Posted June 7, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 7, 2016 You say they are still using the old specialty menus. Are they still a fixed charge or have they added a la cart prices if you don't have SDP? I have always loved Le Bistro on the Sky but I don't need 3 specialty dinners on a 3 day cruise and the new menu a la cart prices are a bit much. I'm sailing on 8/22 and was able to book Cagney's without giving them a credit card....makes me think it's all carte!

I have always loved Le Bistro on the Sky but I don't need 3 specialty dinners on a 3 day cruise and the new menu a la cart prices are a bit much. They are a la carte. My total bill for meals was $69 I had the following: Il Adagio - Bruschetta, chicken parm Cagneys - Baked potato soup, wedge salad, small filet, 2 sides Le Bistro - french onion soup, coq au vin We were all too stuffed to have dessert. I should have taken a picture of the menus for you, but I think they're still a good deal unless you plan on eating the lobster every night, in that case, it's worth buying the 3 day dining package, then you can let loose. Interesting thing to add, all of the other restaurants you could order any extra apps, sides, soups, dessert all under the SDP (one of us had it). Cagney's only covered an app, an entree, 2 sides and a dessert.

Rare BirdTravels Posted June 8, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Thanks for the review. We, too, like the Sky. We try to do a couple of weekend cruises each year,,,, though the our last one in September was before the switch to the all inclusive bar. Your review made us decide that we need to get a Sky cruise book soon.
SuiteCruiser Posted June 14, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted June 14, 2016 (edited) great little review - I want to get to the sky sometime, whenever I can find a little extra vacation time any secret tips/spots to hang out, favorite place on the ship, favorite thing to do, favorite bar? In the front of the ship, I believe on deck 11 is the Outrigger Bar. Grab a drink from the pool bar and head through there (it's closed during the day) and then out doors on each side to a deck where I've never seen anyone else on. I just sit on the floor and enjoy the quiet. Before heading to the casino for an hour before dinner, we always met up at the Mojito Bar which is directly in front of the casino entrance and within the atrium. Good drinks, and great live music.
