Hi all. We're on Riviera October 26 Barcelona

I use a mobility scooter (TravelScoot) full time and cannot do more than one or two stairs with a handrail.

Looking for wheelchair accessibility for the following ports:

Palma de Mallorca

Sete

La Spezia

Livorno

Portofino

Monte Carlo

Oceania says only Portofino is a tender Port.

We are thinking of a land trip at Iivorno and getting off at Sets and MonteCarlo. We welcome any information or suggestions. Thank you.

One of us is disabled since 2013 and now uses a wheelchair to get around and about aboard ship and ashore. I found this link which may be of help to you, at least it's a start. (link below)

Palma de Mallorca is very accessible except for the area immediately around the Cathedral - it's doable, but you have to go a long way around to avoid hills and stairs. We rode the public bus all over town - it has a ramp and only costs a few Euros.

Livorno - I was unable to find inexpensive accessible transportation to Florence. We hired a car to take us back and forth from the port with my wheelchair in the trunk. I highly recommend Rome In Limo; they are very accommodating. All of the museums in Florence are accessible. The only issue is the cobblestones in the city center. If you can break down your scooter to fit in the trunk, hiring a car service would allow you to visit any area you want to see in Tuscany.

I haven't been to the other ports (Livorno and La Spezia are pretty close together - only about an hour apart).

I ended up with a broken foot casted with no weight bearing and had a scooter and found Palma to be fairly accessible. La Spezia ended up at the hospital and not sure what you'd really do there (most would go to CT) and the pharmacist told me it was 100's of steps down into the city and said it wouldn't even be good for me to try to get there. I don't know how the water taxi transportation would be either b/c it's dependent on the seas.

Palma de Mallorca is accessible. If the shuttlebus doesn't work you can use the public bus which stops at both ports. The public bus has a ramp.

Sete: When we were there last fall it wasn't allowed to leave the port without the shuttlebus. No walking. The problem was that they didn't have an accessible shuttlebus. So you need to book a private tour or/and ask the ship to call a taxi which has the permit to enter the port area. Sete is very nice and you can do tours to Avignon, Arles Camargue etc

La Spezia I don't know.

Livorno: There are two possible ports. One is nearly direct in the city, the other needs to use the shuttlebus as well. There are trains to Pisa and Florence but the Train station has many steps to reach the trains. If you are able to walk it is easy to visit these cities for your own. There are normally taxis at the port side. One of the shuttlebusses is accessible with a ramp. Ask for.

Portofino is a Tenderport. If you are able to tender there are small cobblestones in the port area. But very nice cafes to sit and watch people

Monte Carlo: If you want to go straight to the airport in Nice it is better to make an arrangement for the transfer. The lines at disembarkation are long and the waiting time can last for about three hours. The reason is that not so many french taxi drivers have an license to pick up people in Monaco

I hope this helps

I was on the HAL Nieuw Amsterdam round trip to Barcelona to Barcelona last year.

My suggestion would be on the expensive side - OTH you arwe paying a bit of loose change for your trip, upgrades, etc, so you should consider private tours.

We used Tour by Locals in Palma. The private tour route avoids the hassle of public transportation and the loading and unloading of your scooter amidst the glare of less understanding people. Incidentally, we got there on a Sunday and the Cathedral was cloed and the area was a zoo!

In Livorno, we used Rome in Limo, traveled to Florence and hit the major sights including the Academia and the Ufritzi Museum. The museums were handicap-friendly and had ramps for the scooter users. The streets were cobblestoned but managable.

Have a great and safe journey!

My wife uses a wheelchair - I'm the motor. Palma we found pretty easy to get around.

Livorno - we took a cab to the train station and train from there to Pisa. To get to the right track we had to go beyond the platform to the far left (with back to station) where there were road style paved crossings over the tracks. 1st time a station person took us over - on return we knew where to go. There was a little gap between platform and the train but with care I could roll her onboard. At Pisa when we left the station there we looked for and spotted a tourist information sign and got a city map. Proceeded to walk & roll through town and over the river. The Corso Italia street is a very easy pedestrian mall with no cars and decent surface (compared to San Pedro stone streets in Rome).

One thing we noticed (and a little embarrassed about) was we we're not charged entrance fees - anywhere. Started at Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and continued all the way to The Vatican in Rome. Upon spotting the wheelchair someone would take us aside to a special ticket window for zero cost tickets.

We docked at Villefranche for Nice & Monte Carlo. Took the train to both but getting to the station was lots of hill. There is a huge staircase direct to the station but we had to "go way around" to use the streets. Doable but not fun. After that both cities were very easy to get around although from the casino in Monte Carlo we opted for a taxi back to the train station because it was all up hill. Nice was a snap to get around and has a light rail tramway that stops at the train station and was super accessible.
