sunkisser Posted June 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Hi all We are going on a cruise from Civittavecchia on 31st July but due to DH work we can only get a flight at 8.30pm the night before so we have booked into a hotel near Rome Fiumicino airport. We have been quoted €70 for 2 adults and 2 teens to go by shuttle about a mile and a half at 00.15am Is this about right as it seems extreme to me? Clarea Posted June 21, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 21, 2016 I would also ask this on the Italy port of call forum here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=595 Seems like a taxi would be less expensive if you could get a minivan taxi. W and W Posted June 21, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 21, 2016 That seems extreme. Pick a taxi up at the airport? I think some transfer companies just set out a standard fee for transfer to your Rome hotel from the airport. Did you tell them which hotel it is. If it stays at that price a taxi should be cheaper. mek Posted June 22, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 22, 2016 At what hotel are you staying? Some of the ones near the airport have shuttle services. Even if they have s surcharge, it can't possible be anything near 70 euros.
davidcraig2003 Posted June 22, 2016 #11 Share Posted June 22, 2016 Any metered taxi, of which there should be plenty, will do this for around 10 euros, in addition to probably being easier to locate!
expattraveler Posted June 22, 2016 #12 Share Posted June 22, 2016 We've stayed at the Rome Marriott Park Hotel twice in the past 18 months which is approximately 15km from the airport. Although the hotel has a shuttle service, it wasn't operating when we arrived at FCO. Took a taxi to hotel both times and the metered price was between €25 & €30 without tip for two persons plus luggage. BTW, the hotel has offered great rates for both stays. euro cruiser Posted June 22, 2016 #13 Share Posted June 22, 2016 Any metered taxi, of which there should be plenty, will do this for around 10 euros, in addition to probably being easier to locate! Is this a guess or do you have experience with Fiumicino taxis? Even the airport web site has a warning that Fiumicino taxis have a different (and higher) rate basis than Rome taxis, but they are the only ones who can take you to Fiumicino. As for the hotel shuttle fees, note that they are per passenger. More than ten years ago I stayed at an airport hotel a little over two miles from the airport (the old Marriott Courtyard, now the Leonardo Da Vinci) and the fee then was €15 per person for the shuttle bus. A taxi was only slightly less (for two of us) at €25. There has been at least one increase in taxi rates since then.
davidcraig2003 Posted June 22, 2016 #14 Share Posted June 22, 2016 It's an educated guess to be fair. As long as it is a legitimate taxi regulated by the city, I cannot imagine any combination or per km / surcharges which could come close to 70 euros for a mile and a half journey (4 minutes?) davidcraig2003 Posted June 22, 2016 #15 Share Posted June 22, 2016 This may help: http://www.comune.roma.it/PCR/resources/cms/documents/tariffario_taxi_luglio_2012.pdf Scroll down for English. The regulated, fixed fare from fiumicino to the city centre is 48 euros. So the coliseum, at a distance of 18 miles, would be 48. What hotel are you staying in?
