avd79 Posted June 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2016 We are sailing on the Vista in less than 2 weeks time and one of our ports of call is Kusadasi, Turkey. For those who have been, what is the best currency to carry while in port? Do the vendors at the local bazar and shops accept either US dollars or Euros, or do they only accept the local currency? Do not what to have to make one additional currency exchange for this port if I don't have to! Advice please.
Cully1953 Posted June 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2016 The last time I was in Kusadasi almost all the shopkeepers in the tourist areas accepted major currencies (Sterling, US Dollars, Euro etc.) They often had favourable exchange rates too, any change would be given in Turkish Lira. Alternatively, there are loads of currency exchange places in the main shopping areas, they have their exchange rate posted outside. Haggling over the price is customary in Turkey, this is usually conducted over a glass of delicious apple tea. Enjoy your stay in Kusadasi, it's a lovely place and the people are friendly
trvlgirlmq Posted June 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2016 We were on the June 11 sailing and used our Euros in Kusadasi. No issues and many shops had prices in both currencies posted.
solongshakespeare Posted June 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2016 We were also on the June 11th sailing. We used Euros and dollars (and at one point a combination of the two) Kusadasi was one of our favorite stops and we got great deals on genuine fakes. letsgo39 Posted June 27, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 27, 2016 We were there last week and had a wonderful tour with Ephesus Shuttle. We used our U.S. money just like we did in 2011.We had a delicious meal at a local non touristy restaurant and our total was only about $68 for 6 people for a wonderful lunch.
