zdcatc12 Posted July 11, 2016 #26 Share Posted July 11, 2016 P.S. I was surprised how many people didn't show up for the VIFP party. We did the Cheers program so we really didn't need the free drinks, but it was fun hearing from the crew and speaking with other cruisers about their experiences. If you are talking about the Platinum/Diamond party, you should not have been there! It is only for Platinum and Diamond guests, no one else. She should have gotten an invitation with only her name on it. Sometimes they enforce it, obviously this time they didn't.

When I turned Platinum one cruise before my DH there was no issue with him attending with me. We asked at Guest Services, they smiled and gave him an invite. No, I am not talking about Aunt Sally's cousin's brother and their entire brood and six cabins full! But bringing your significant other cruising with you? Nothing wrong with that IMHO. Let the fun begin. ;) Edited July 11, 2016 by Bookbug53

What's wrong with that is that is not how it is supposed to work. Like I said, sometimes they enforce it, sometimes they don't. The invitation specifically invites the P/D guest, it does not say "and cabin mate", "and spouse", "and partner", etc.. Just because they let your DH in doesn't mean that it is right. I12Cruise Posted July 12, 2017 #30 Share Posted July 12, 2017 So since I'm thick-headed I just wanted to ask one more time...if I become platinum on the last day of my upcoming cruise, I would board as platinum?

Yes. You will receive a Platinum S&S card and have all the perks. It should say Priority on your boarding pass and luggage tags as well.

Every time I've call Guest Services and asked about my DH going with me, just in case a different ship has different rules. So far, every time I've been told it's fine. winddawn Posted July 12, 2017 #33 Share Posted July 12, 2017 My girlfriend just got off the Carnival Liberty yesterday, and we will be leaving on a 7 day cruise aboard the Carnival Freedom on Saturday. We were under the assumption we would have priority boarding on the next cruise because she attains Platinum status during the cruise. When we went to print boarding passes she was still Gold status and her last cruise hadn't even posted yet. I called Carnival and the rep told me that she would not be Platinum on the next cruise because she wouldn't have the appropriate number of days until the fifth day, which is more than halfway past the cruise. This is the first time I have heard of this. I am Red and will be attaining Gold status on the next cruise and they already have me listed at Gold on their website. Seems like with Carnival the higher up you go the more they try to screw you over. Has anybody else had any experience with this? From Carnival's FAQ: "Guests graduating into a new level during a cruise will receive the benefits of the new level they are graduating into from the beginning of the cruise (e.g. those graduating to Gold on the 3rd day of a 5-day cruise will receive Gold benefits for the entire duration of their cruise)." https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2938/~/vifp-club---carnivals-recognition-program Once her last cruise posts, reprint her boarding pass. BallFour4 Posted July 12, 2017 #35 Share Posted July 12, 2017 You learn something every day. Reread the entire post, and it wasn't my intention to sound mean. One benefit others can enjoy is priority tendering if someone in your cabin or group (up to 5) is platinum. It's also only one-way, leaving the ship, but it's nice. Same goes for priority self-debarkation, or at least that's been our experience prior to our daughter being platinum. She and her husband walked off with us. . He went to guest services and they corrected it. I will be good on this cruise, so now I'm wondering if they will give me a gold card or red?? Wheels87 Posted July 13, 2017 #37 Share Posted July 13, 2017 I spoke with three different people because the first two couldn't answer my question and the last one basically told me she wouldn't attain Platinum status because she wouldn't have the right amount of days until the 5th day into a 7 day cruise. He said the rules state that you have to obtain the right amount of days before the halfway point of your cruise. I asked him where the rules were and he said the VIFP section of carnival.com. The biggest benefit of Platinum status to us is the Priority boarding. Just hope we can get it. This is patently false. Whoever told you that is incorrect, period. This is why it is best to find a PVP who knows what they are doing. Mine is available 24/7 and has help me book a lot of cruises over the years. Good luck!
