madera cruiser Posted July 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2016 My father passed away this past Sunday and per his wishes, we are going to bury him at sea. I saw a video of a private ceremony on one of Carnival's ships and for the life of me , I can't find it now. I have searched here and youtube to no avail. Does this ring a bell with anyone? This video would really explain the beauty of the ceremony to my adult sons.
bigman01 Posted July 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 6, 2016 First of all, my condolences on the loss of your father. I don't remember ever seeing a video of a burial at sea on a cruise ship. I've seen them from smaller privately owned boats, but not a cruise ship. I lost my father a little over 3 years ago, and we left his ashes down around Cozumel. I do have a video of it, but it's been over 3 years and I have not been able to watch the video yet. Sadly, I lost my mom in Feb this year, and we're taking her on her final cruise in October. So we'll leave her ashes down around Cozumel also. I will say that Carnival was VERY good to us during a difficult time of losing my dad. I had messaged John Heald on his facebook page about a week before we left, and he arranged everything with the ship. When I boarded the ship that day, I went to Guest Services and told them who I was, and they were aware of everything. They allowed us to choose when we wanted to do it, and everything had to be ok'd by the Environmental Officer on board, which was no problem. At the appointed day/time, 2 security officers met us at our cabin door and escorted us down to Guest Services and then to a crew only area on a lower deck of the ship. (My mom was in a wheelchair at the time, and I had asked for security to escort us so that we would have no problems getting her wheelchair through the crowd on the Lido deck). Once we got to the place on the lower deck, Carnival allowed us to spend as much time as we needed. I had bought a biodegradable urn (shaped like a sea shell), and we threw the urn into the sea, and then my mom threw 55 sand dollars (one for each year they were married) into the sea, and finally, each of us threw a red rose in. I had someone videotape and photograph the ceremony, but as I said, I haven't been able to watch it at all yet. I hope your sons will jump on board (no pun intended) with your plans. It will be a very emotional, yet poignant farewell to your dad.
RWolver672 Posted July 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 6, 2016 I'm sorry for your loss. I do remember seeing a video of a burial at sea and I too have tried to find it for you. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it either. If I remember correctly, it was an Asian family that scattered the ashes of their husband/Father. Neotericisis Posted July 8, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) My condolences to you and your family! My father was a sailor until his mid-twenties and it was his life long passion. He passed away in 2008 and requested that his ashes be spread in various bodies of water, especially in the Caribbean where he sailed for years in his youth. We purchased the small sized biodegradable burial at sea packages and have spread his ashes during my last two cruises, and with one of my sister's cruises. I intend on spreading his ashes again during this upcoming cruise. He would laugh at me saying this, but he was a big guy, so there is quite a bit of ashes left :p Edited July 8, 2016 by Neotericisis
