Bahama Currency

I know that in the Bahamas they use Bahamian dollars........which are equal in value to the US dollar. My question is probably dumb, but here goes anyway. Is there any Bahamian coins that are about the size of a 50 cent piece or a dollar coin (US)? If so, where can we go to get them? My husband wants to get probably 10-15 of the coins when we're there.

If you're in Nassau on a weekday stop by the branch of Scotiabank on Bay Street right in front of the cruise terminal building. The tellers there should have all the Bahamian coins you need.

 

Both the half-dollar and dollar are paper notes. The $3 bill makes an intersting souvenir.

 

The Bahamian 1-cent and 5-cent coins are the same size and color as U.S. money. The 10-cent coin is larger than our nickel but has a round, scalloped edge. The 25-cent coin in the same size as a U.S. quarter. The most interesting coin is the 15-cent coin which is square with rounded corners. But this is no longer made and thus limted to Bahamian coin sets in stores. The bank might sell coin sets but otherwise I can't recall a coin store in Nassau. If you're going to Freeport there was a coin collectors store in the International Bazaar.

By any chance do you know the size of that 20-cent coin you mentioned? If it's the correct size it might be worth searching for. :)

Haven't seen one in while. My recollection is that it's about the size of one of our standard "flag" postage stamps....a little bit bigger than a nickel. It's definitely not the size of our 50-cent coin.
