Can you cancel if you are within the 24 hour period?

 

After reading her last post I don't think the OP is interested in anything else we have to say.:(

I would watch to see if a cancellation in the category appears during the promotion and price it then to see if it offers an advantage.

Its not just this deal. Early saver has to have a price in your cabin category to qualify for any rate drop.

 

Carnival considers the price minus the obc as the price the rate is based on. If there are no rooms available in your category, there is no new price to base your cruise on.

Is a higher category cabin available? Can always upgrade yourself.

Bingo! I booked a PT and was not eligible for any price reduction because the category was sold out (come to find out there were only 12 PT cabins on that ship)... so I upgraded to a 4J (inside with floor window), paid less money and got my $200 OBC :)

 

NOTE: In my opinion, this is one of the biggest downfalls of CCL's Early Saver program. I do not feel they should EVER offer an ES price for cabin categories where there are less than 20. Unless you upgrade, it will most likely never work out!

Yes we booked Early Saver. We booked and paid for it several Months ago.

 

I'm just upset because I'm not familiar with Carnival. With the Holland America Cruises we have booked if they offer any promotion you qualify for they add it to your booking.

 

On a brighter note we have a 28 day Princess cruise in March of 2018 booked, they just added a free sip & sail package to our booking. I've never had a cruise company refuse to add a promotion to a booking unless it says new bookings only. And then they have giving us a good will gesture of a small OBC.

 

Carnival said our category is sold out so I was out of luck. No credit. So we probably aren't a good fit with Carnival. I called Princess this morning...very very happy after. Called Carnival tonight....not so happy.

You pretty much said it all with this statement!

 

I have always booked early saver, and always book the Cloud 9 Spa rooms, which are limited in number. Once I received a great OBC as fallout from the Triumph Poop Cruise. The second time I was only able to get $80 in OBC total for two cabins...only because a promotion was offered about a week after I booked and there were still a few cabins available. This third time I could have filed the paperwork to get $6 in OBC a few days after we booked, but frankly did not think the risk of something getting screwed up in the process was worth the effort. All the cabins sold out about a week after that so there has been no reason for me to check.

I disagree. Because of the ES rate, I was able to get a great deal on an aft wrap on the Breeze. Paid $1850 originally and by the time the cruise came around, I came up with $740 in OBC due to price drops. So yes, while price drops are rare for the uncommon cabins, it is still possible if you get a casino rate.

I also disagree. That's a choice you make when booking ES. Often you won't get any price drops. It's not always due to limited category cabins. My current sailing has only gone up. We have 2 4Js booked yet even at this late date, there are a couple available. Just much higher than we paid by booking early. It's up to you if you want to save a it of money by booking early saver. Plus there's always a small chance that someone will cancel at a time for you to catch a price drop.
